AsianWriter - yes, language is a vessel for communication but not ONLY that. If we just thought of language as a means of communicating facts then we may as well all speak pidgin English with a basic vocabulary of 2000 words (like Americans; amazingly, only 31% of their graduate can read properly!!!). Language is much MUCH more than that. It is worth those with a high level education (me and perhaps 7% of the population) to defend the English language against the barbarians who would have us all speaking the dialect of American Moron-ese. FACT: President Obama only speaks well because his background is, essentially, British with a British educated father from the British Empire - (and all countries were better off ruled by the Brits - just look at Africa and Asia now!) - and a British mother and family - and a good grounding in the British tradition of rhetoric and legal argument. If you are from south Asia - the land called India the British created (and ruled in a benevolent way with full cooperation of the local populations who knew that British was best) - then your English is indeed a descendent of 19th century English - why words such as 'fellow' and 'how do you do' and 'golly gosh' and 'quite' meaning 100%, are still current in Asia but almost obsolete in the UK. American English is derived from 17th century English - and indeed a handful of Americans can speak proper English (eg Gore Vidal). Most however speak BAD English - a very poor and barren language which is basic to the point of being retarded and neanderthal.
