the idea is that the hamster doesn't know that it
So you think highly educated and experienced writers with college/Masters/PhD degrees are illiterate imbeciles and they don't know what they're doing. Okaay, you got their attention.
you misunderstand the metaphor. I am not saying that the hamster spins on the wheel because it went to the wrong schools. it has nothing to do with how many degrees you have; it's about being self-aware and seeing your situation from a different perspective... and wanting what you're worth, especially if you're highly educated and experienced.

and wanting what you're worth, especially if you're highly educated and experienced
Metaphors aside, do you admit that some writers might be receiving what they're worth in this industry?
it's about being self-aware and seeing your situation from a different perspective... and wanting what you're worth, especially if you're highly educated and experienced.
Only illiterate imbeciles aren't being self-aware, cannot see their situation from different perspectives, and don't know what they are worth. People in vegetative state are also self-unaware..
Editor75, I think you must know about a perfect place where one can enjoy life and do nothing at all but still get all the benefits we all deserve. It is a perfect situation, I agree. I don't want to work but do want all those benefits. I want no worries, no bills, no bosses, no deadlines, no work, no taxes, no stupid people to deal with, no illnesses, no pain - all I want is freedom, peace of mind, good health, and happiness! I guess I could use someone to clean after me, cook for me, pamper me, do my laundry, take care of my kids, and pay my bills. Where's the place? Please do tell! We're all moving tomorrow.
some writers might think they're receiving what they're worth, because they're content with the limits of their situation. the real problem here is not seeing past these limits, to discover that you deserve better for what you're doing. what you're doing is certainly not "nothing at all," and in fact, I'd wager, is more than what most office workers do.
some writers might think they're receiving what they're worth, because they're content with the limits of their situation.
Bill Gates and Steve Jobs might think they're receiving what they're worth, but according to you they must be delusional. Why don't you contact them and educate them how stupid and limited they are to be content with the limits of their situation.
After all, they could achieve so much more.
I'm not calling anyone stupid. I think you've been breathing the poisonous air in here for too long. I'm putting ideas out there, and asking for your ideas, regarding how companies can treat writers better. I'm also interested in how writers can increase their power to have companies meet their demands.

they're content with the limits of their situation
is there a level at which you think writers should be content, or should they continue battling site owners until they get 100% of the profit?
asking for your ideas, regarding how companies can treat writers better
we've told you our ideas: companies treat us just fine, and the only ways in which they might treat us "better" are either undesired or unfeasible. You just don't want to hear these ideas because you can't comprehend that we work for GOOD companies
how writers can increase their power to have companies meet their demands.
Stop writing for companies that don't meet your demands. I worked for a company with low pay and policies I disagreed with for a very short time. They didn't meet my demands, and they lost my services, plain and simple.

This is the low season, correct? To my knowledge, a certain website posted orders for its top writers yesterday ranging in per page pay from $14 to a little over $30. Would that be considered 'underpaying'?
The interesting thing is (and this is what truly distinguishes the best writers in this industry from the substandard ones), is that the writers did not fall upon these orders like a pack of vultures. They carefully considered each and every order and accepted/rejected based on their assessment of whether or not they were able to deliver the top notch work required. Those in doubt were not, for a moment, attracted by the $600 payout for 20 pages. Their primary concern was their reputation.
So, not only are the real pros very very fairly paid for their work but, they are not HUNGRY. They don't pick up orders willy nilly and are not out to make a 'quick buck.' They are respected by the companies they work with, the customers who are fortunate enough to hire their services and have, through their own dedication, discipline and hard work, established their reputations. Their hard-won reputations is their primary asset and they do not pick up orders which may detract, rather than add, to their reputation - irrespective of pay rate.
Understand that and you will understand the difference between the pros in this industry and the wannabes - you.
united you stand, with your heads in the sand.
So, after being booted every which way by everyone from writers to owners, this is your response. Cool.
Amons: no, it's not. and yes, negativism and elitism are apparently contagious.
Oh, so that WASN'T your response? Odd.
Editor, reasonable people, when they are faced with unremitting hostility from an audience, do one of two things.
1) Stick to their guns but provide sufficient evidence to change peoples' minds or at least make them think the idea is not totally insane.
2) Alter the presentation of their idea somewhat.
You've done neither. So you can't allege "negativism" (do you mean negativity?) or elitism because YOU'VE been arrogant, in that you dismiss other peoples' opinions out of hand without giving them the respect to rebut them, and negative, in that you see problems others don't agree exist.
"no, it's not," as in, no, it's not cool. apparently you're also all set to detect denial, which is, after elitism and negativism, the third major snag of this hell.
negativism is word, btw, and I can see you're fitting right in here already, since ignorant grammar/spelling snobbery is a close #4, tied with race-baiting. good luck in your ongoing transformation.

Keep your Indian euphemisms to yourself. You're incredibly ignorant.
Why do you hide your Indian location in your profile?

No reply to the substance, just more character sniping. "Negativism" indeed.

it wasn't me; I was talking to Amons. since you're asking me, though, I think that it was 3 different people, and that they were probably all correct. this is my 1st username, and I'm increasingly sorry I ever got it.

She didn't say that. She didn't even imply it. I'd be happy if Indian, Pakistani or Ukrainian ESL writers could make real money and offer a decent service. Many can't.
Why do you hide from the public your location in India?
derr derr derr derrrs! what was that?
it's not race-baiting if it's a fact?
OK then-- for the last freaking time-- I was born in Dayton. it was boring. I moved to the East Coast. my only connection to India is a hazy urge to spend several years in Goa doing nothing. this is the end of story, as far as you're concerned. you're a racist, a bully, and generally, a sad, sad person. I suggest you get off your ass, stop living a virtual life here, and go teach phys ed.

The problem is that people have been burnt too many times by people claiming to be Americans but dishonestly hiding their location. I do agree that there is a risk of graduating from that claim to bona fide racism and race-baiting, but no one has done that here, IMHO. (It certainly happened on the thread with Melissa).

Some people are good at posting pix in response to posts. I don't because I am not good at it. I daresay that if I went that route, I'd be better at it than you.
You are not pig-headed but DUMB. Not a single person has ever agreed with anything you've ever posted but you keep coming back. You refuse to listen to others and are plain }{#%#%^%!!!!
Seriously, go away!
I daresay that if I went that route, I'd be better at it than you.

By telling you to "go away" I am trying to diplomatically convey how utterly bored we all are of your presence. However, if you are into being thrashed all the time, to each 'her' own.
No. Have nothing to prove to one as ignorant as you :)
Keep them coming ... show us how much dumber you can get.
The effort you are making to hide your "ESL" background is commendable ... obvious but commendable.

You have a knack for intelligent comebacks :)
Neither of you are clever nor anonymous :) How about running off like a cry baby AGAIN?
"Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead." :)
Question time:
1) who made the first overture?
2) did you really believe that the 'secret' would be kept?
3) do you not know that your posting styles would be identified?
4) do you honestly believe that $10/month proxies actually work?
Stupid, stupid, stupid ...
wow, you got me. I can't believe it. I guess you know everything.
1) it was me! please stop the torture now.
2) I have no idea.
3) I guess you're just really clever.
4) it hurts to say yes to this one, but, in the interest of a greater cause, sure. whatever you say.

RIC there? :)
Does academia-research treat its writers as employees?
Does Alexei pay for your health insurance?
How about paid vacations? Has AR been handing out any of those lately?
Go back to staying away and double-selling essays.
"Talentless hack."
keep taking your disproportionate share of the profits, and doing none of the work. you're the same as all the other owners you're trying to disparage here (and whose business model is currently slaughtering yours). all you can do is react-- you've been on your heels since it started.
what is that, some kind of code? I'm just one person, you paranoid stooge. your "detection" of my "style" is a big, subjective mess. can you even count how many bogeymen I've made you create? I can't.

No bogeyman :) A joke, yes; a "talentless hack," definitely.
Now that you've educated us (with plenty of help) on the nature of this industry and the evil company owners, how about explaining the difference between EFL, ESL, etc.?
MeoKhan 10 | 1357 ✏ ☆☆ Freelance Writer
In my opinion, although writers (like myself) do work at their own convenience of time and area, they do, however, invest their time and energies for a freelance work companies. So, I guess we should move forward to voicing our status upgrade of some sort, i.e., some kind of assurance from the companies for our work (maybe a tenure-based system will not be that bad), agree? :-)
so far, I've come up with a few ideas, which have been met with absolute fury from company owners (WRT, Writersbeware, Major, et al.), and tepid shrugs from their "satisfied" doofus pets (FreelanceWriter, etc.).
some of these are:
1. better CPP
2. bonus system for repeat customers
3. royalties system
4. paid sick days, from a formula based on the writer's average output
these ideas can be funded if companies
1. take less % of the cut
2. pay repeat customer bonuses from the advertising budget (customer loyalty is the goal of advertising, anyway)
3. put aside a fund for writers from pre-written paper income
any other ideas?
why should I? you apparently already know. someone smarter than you are has obviously opened your mind. I'm not surprised by your ingratitude.
do you have a 5th or 6th identity for me, or have you settled on RIC?
I came here with a bunch of ideas, and got nothing but a pain in the neck from you. why? you're a company owner. I represent a potential threat to your pocket. you can tell me to go away all you want, but it's not going to happen.
as long as there's a glimmer of hope that I can influence writers to question their situation re: you taking an exploitative cut of their pay for doing zilch work, I'm going to keep trying to wake people up. if you don't like it, you can kma, but you can't make me leave.
any other ideas?
Your ideas are laughable and illegal.
put in the first laugh, then. it frees up the last one.
