It's possible that some ESL students may prefer work performed by ESL writers since it probably mirrors their own writing abilities more closely. Many times in the past, I've been asked to "dumb down" my writing for some ESL clients and I find myself constantly wondering if common words, terms and phrases are inappropriate or not to the requested level so it's actually more difficult for me to write these.

the white experience in Detroit

I was almost born in Detroit but my parents moved to New Orleans -- just in time it seems. I've seen some recent videos of the city and it seems as though every other house and building is abandoned and dilapidated. I can only imagine what it's like to be one of the unfortunates of any race living there. As Moe the Bartender observed, "Now, now, lay off Detroit. Them people is living in 'Mad Max' times."

I didn't mean to be tough on the Russians -- I like Ruskies any more. I grew up during an era when we (i.e., the U.S.) were scared of them but after reading about the Battle of Stalingrad and playing Call of Duty about a million times, I not only like and respect them, I admire their ability to persevere. If some of them are criminals, well, hell, so are we.

I don't have to "play" dumb

In my defense, I did score the highest SAT scores in the entire state of Oklahoma in 1977 (I know what you're thinking...but there were also some smart people back then -- really). Not to toot my own horn (beep, beep), I also scored highest on my MOS test (71C, stenographer) in the U.S. Army in 1972, was "Soldier of the Month" in Soldier's Magazine, and was the youngest combat staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in 1973. Oh yeah, I came in 7th in my NCO Academy Class out of 32 soldiers at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky in 1974. I'm really proud of that...

Sigh. Those were the days.

p.s. I've also been decorated five times so I'm keeping the drones.

p.p.s. Send me your address, wordsies, and I'll send you some Johnny Walker Red.

p.p.p.s. Now, go fetch Grandpa another glass of bourbon.

finance-assignments.com - I don't know whether it's a scam or not (please let us know how it turns out), but here's some red flags from their site:

As we know everyone have their perceptions, likes and dislikes.

Google may eventually catch on.

I lack the techno-savvy to fully appreciate the implications of these trends on our industry, but they beg the question, "What can legitimate essay companies do to more effectively compete with these fraudsters?" If Google ever achieves sentience ("The Internet of Things" etc.) and becomes self-aware, these questions may be moot and Google will just tell us what we like and want and Amazon will deliver it by drone in 30 minutes or less.*

_____________

*I'm throwing nets over all of the drones that come to my house and keeping them. The Federal Trade Commission states that: "If you receive merchandise that you didn't order, you have a legal right to keep it as a free gift." I wonder how much I can get for one of those things...

the expectation that the student was involved in the class and can reflect this knowledge in essays meaningfully

This is an important point but the same applies to American (or other countries) coursework as well. It can be especially daunting when you don't know anything about the client (or even the class).

There were some clues on this Web site that suggest it is in the third world (despite a whois report showing Phoenix), including the following:

Our quality and volume of work speak our popularity among the students.
Our every client accepts the fact ...
This has enabled our clients in achieving more with dissertations writing, thesis paper, literature review, Ph.D. and other academic assignments.
Our service bouquet includes ...
We also understand that time and research is ...
We guarantee peace of mind to all our clients which motivates them in leading more socialized life.
Cent per cent original work

There's more of the same but you get the idea. This is where we could use W2B's help...

That would be a tough row to hoe today. I remember a time when millions of students ... oh yeah, I told you that story already. Well, get Grandpa another glass of bourbon anyway.

Any decline in orders can't be attributed to a corresponding decline in student numbers. Enrollment in degree-granting postsecondary institutions in the U.S. increased from 16.9 million to 20.4 million between 2003 and 2013; the number of full-time students increased 22% and the number of part-time students increased 18% (National Center for Education Statistics @ nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=98).

Besides increased competition, another far less likely but still possible cause could be that high schools are doing a better job of teaching young learners how to research and write papers (nah).

Do you want to be treated by a crack doctor?

It depends on what's bothering me... maybe i WANT crack.*

Likewise:

Maybe a bluff lawyer?

"When the going gets tough, you don't want a criminal lawyer. You want a CRIMINAL lawyer" -- Jesse Pinkman, "Breaking Bad"

I've heard all of the above reasons numerous times (too busy is the most common), but I think the most memorable was an elderly (even to me) client who ordered a 90-page doctoral dissertation because "I want to do it for myself."

the rational

*rationale

p.s. Don't feel bad -- lotsa people get this one wrong -- likewise with regime/regimen (including Stephen Colbert: "I would say laughter is the best medicine. But it's more than that. It's an entire regime of antibiotics and steroids").

I think (as I say, I fell asleep) the full mastery issue was focused mainly on mathematics ...

Here's the TED Talks program I was talking about: ted.com/talks/sal_khan_let_s_teach_for_mastery_not_test_scores?language=en. The speaker, Salman "Sal" Khan is described by PBS as "the founder and chief executive officer of Khan Academy, a not-for-profit with a mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere." Khan makes a lot of good points in this presentation.

My website offers discounts for first-time users (usually)

Conversely, I usually charge full price for first-time clients and offer a discount for repeat clients (as well as for active duty military/veterans, firefighters and larger assignments).

I was watching PBS' "TED Talks" (pbs.org/show/ted-talks/) on educational reform a couple of nights ago when one speaker really caught my attention because he actually made sense. He explained that the current grading system in the U.S. is designed for failure for the vast majority of students because a passing grade of say, 65% (or anything less than 100% in fact), means that they failed to learn 35% of the coursework. The cumulative effect of this ongoing learning deficit from year to year means that by the time students reach high school and college, they have large gaps in their learning because they failed to grasp the fundamentals of subjects (especially math) to the point where they can't avoid failing. He recommended that all students be required to gain full mastery of subjects before moving on to the next level (or something like that -- I fell asleep on the couch before he finished -- interesting subject, monotone speaker).

mostly private clients?

About half and half.

you just get better at recognizing which projects to avoid even if you could do them if you had to

I couldn't agree more. Econometrics and philosophy for example. Jeez. These are terrible topics that I try to avoid at all costs.

Cherries from Michigan are the best. I used to think it was Washington State (and Lord they are good), but after this last summer's crop (and the season is short), I'm convinced that Michigan is in the vanguard of cherry goodness. When I retire in 600-plus days, Michigan is our second destination (after the marijuana dispensaries in Colorado). We'll post videos and let you know just how good the cherries are.
