I've been thinking about setting up a company too and even have a web developer who could make the website (but you don't need one). You can easily hire talent through Upwork or even by posting community flyers around universities. You can also post on Indeed. It's very easy. Start first with 2 or 3 writers and a medium workload. Take, perhaps, about 30% of the cut. If you're charging $20 a page, pay the writer $12. Focus on something - quality or quantity? If quantity, pay low and charge low. If quality, pay high and charge high. $12 / page for non-urgent orders would be considered relatively high.

Been in the biz for about 2 years now and know my way around... (well, in freelance private writing for a year, with companies for under a year).

I just got here. I'm a relatively recent academic writer and there are not many of us (I will tell you from the massive amount of work I receive). Or at least, there are not many of us GOOD ones. I love what I do and about 70% of the time don't feel like I'm even working... I work at a few freelancer firms and have a whole slew of private clients. I have a M.A (philosophy) and a bachelor of education, and for once it's nice to get paid for doing lesson plans ;) As morally questionable as essays may be, it's become a huge part of my life now. My mantra has become 'doing essays' among social circles. What's she doing? Oh, she's doin' essays. Sometimes, people find it difficult to understand why we love doing them so much....

I don't think essay writing should continue to be widespread in the media. I have been seeing many news articles about it, even in Canada. 99% of these articles are terrible and portray both the writer and student as virtual demons, cheats, hacks, lazy, unprincipled, no backbone (you name it!). As such, I worry about the legality of the profession if too many of these articles come out.

I'm a new writer here but I was wondering.. what are everyone's thoughts on the current press essay services have been receiving? As a Canadian, I've seen multiple news stories about this topic, both on the provincial and federal level (i.e. in national news sources). It frightens me to some degree, even though I know that cheating is a business--like the oldest business in the world--that will likely never disappear.

Furthermore, I know it sounds horrible, but does anyone 'get off' on doing essays? There's just something about the badness of it..

Give me a bloody break about fairness and moral 'backbone.' It's a joke at best.

You can try calculating by dividing the number of pages with man hours

I charge between $10 - $12 / pg for freelance clients, and get about the same with companies (between $8 - $ 25 / pg, depending on company and time of year). Overall, I am not complaining but I find I began to weed out some of the private clients in favor of companies... sometimes it was better pay, and other times it was easier to get the money. I didn't know people charge up to $35/pg! If a page takes me 15 minutes to write, I feel like that's a bit much...

Maybe I am selling myself short... I have a M.A and a bachelor of Education. However, I just started doing essays about a year ago (started with private clients.. then worked my way to companies). I work for 2 low - medium paying companies and one high-oaying ($16 - 25 or even $33 / pg, depending on reason).. as I've mentioned. I'm a good writer and consider myself as such (perhaps not as experienced as some of those here.. won't lie about that). I'm thinking for the coming year I remain with companies, and begin charging private clients a solid $15 / pg or the workload will become too high again - like it was in Feb, March and Apr of this year.

The pay at mine is relatively low as well (even down to $5 / pg for non-urgent orders with a long deadline during off season). I take it for what it is; essay companies are ways for us writers to make a living. But I also get paid between $16 and $33 at another place that only hires out MA's and PhDs. I'm a little concerned at how I will manage the whopping 3 places I work for when busy season rolls around... I may have to choose... but if I choose the higher paying one over the lower, the lower won't value me as much. Good thing is I heard during peak season the lower one's rates go up to about $10 - $15/ pg (which I have witnessed in April, when I started there).

I don't find any problem with the seasonality. I've been trying to fight them off recently to get some off-time (and it's JULY). I work for 3 companies - one goes VERY strong throughout the summer, second one is medium and the last one gives almost nothing.

Writerbay is SICK. I've been working there for about 4 months now. The pay is low but it's in U.S so it always comes out to more.

I only got scammed by one person and it was for a 1,000 easy paper. I let it go. I would refrain from taking sanctions. Think about the repercussions this could have on her VS what you're losing. I wouldn't publish online. Let it go.

You easily make it sustainable. I did. I'm going to quit one place because I don't quite like their policies.

I think before all of it. It's not always $5 / pg though.. depends on urgency and other factors. I've been getting more than that from them recently.

At least you didn't get scammed by a company.....
