I've seen some things saying it's illegal in certain states to sell essays or other work to someone if you know or have reason to believe they'll turn it to a school for credit. I guess if you got caught doing this in one of those states and there was a record of it then you might have something to worry about. I'm not sure where those laws stand on papers being sold as 'example papers' or 'model papers'. It's something I've been thinking about lately and have been meaning to research, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Perhaps someone here already has and can point us in the direction of some information, but as of now I cannot.

I have been working as a freelance writer for many website for quite a few time.
I have been doing it as a part time though...
But now I am really looking to make it a full time job...
You have mentioned about high paying sites... I would love to have this information shared about these sites...
Hopefully I can do good as I cant make much being working here for the Pakistani companies...
It will be quite a support if you could email me or PM me...

Ah, that sounds somewhat familiar. It's not exactly like my situation but there are some strong similarities.

How do I get started? I don't really have time to establish freelance writing credentials on my own, but every essay broker I have found online seems like an obvious scam.

One option is to apply to some of the pre-existing companies and see how it goes. Another is to make your own website, which isn't necessarily very expensive. You could always do both to increase your total workload. You don't really have to establish any credentials. Customers are always taking risk when ordering from someone for the first time, but I've found that quality work and good communication keep customers coming back for more.

There should be a contract involved, and the company you are contracting with should be a verifiable entity in a country whose legal system you trust

This is good advice but dispensible. I have other writers working for me at times and I have worked with another writer who contacted me about helping fill his orders. There have been no contracts involved. My 'business' is not a verifiable entity; it's more of a non-registered sole-proprietorship. Does that mean it's a scam? No, just like guys who set up their own lawn-mowing businesses for extra cash aren't scamming anybody.

-massive fine structures (simply a way of keeping more of a writer's pay--it's not like the fines are given as refunds to the customer.

This is an excellent point about the companies having incentive to keep bad writers. I've only applied to one of the online sites and have occasionally perused their orders but never chose to accept any. Anything that looks like decent pay requires about 30 pages in the next 15 minutes (I'm exaggerating just a little, but you get the point). I see what's being offered and compare it to what I can get on my own and they just don't seem worth my time. But if I had no orders of my own I might take some because any money is better than none. Since I haven't tried any from that site I can't tell you whether or not they would have actually paid me. What's sad is that the customers are paying as much or more per page and a lot of it goes to the company, leaving those small amounts for whatever writer is willing to work for wages around $6/page.

Do legitimate services actually exist?

As I and pheelyks have pointed out, there are obstacles involved with trying to write for many of the businesses that are out there. Many don't pay much and as he pointed out you can run into trouble with the ones that have a system of fines. Compared to at least some of the larger companies online, I pay my writers more than they do when I need help filling my workload and I'm working independently and have only been really active at this for a few months now. For instance, I recently paid a writer what I would have gotten myself per page for an order except that I kept about $4. When I hire out I keep just a little for myself, to cover the cost of processing orders, proofreading my writers' work, and website maintenance. I see this as the best way for me to keep a few writers on hand who are capable of producing work that's up to my standards, which is important because whether I write the paper myself or get one of my writers to do it, it's my reputation that's on the line and I depend strongly on repeat customers. Just don't screw people over and never accept an order that you aren't really capable of filling.

Hey, everyone is fair game, at least at this very second, because the DND ("do not discuss these essay paper writing services") list isn't currently showing any companies. I just went to check out the list and the page is still there but there isn't a list. Technically we can discuss any company we wish until that changes without breaking any rules, so if there's anything you really want to ask or say, go for it. Of course it's probably just something that needs to be fixed, so make sure the list isn't back up before posting a business name.

You asked for "reactions" and I gave you mine.

Actually, I asked for reactions to that site, not reactions to the fact that I posted it, so you're incorrect to say that I asked for reactions and you gave me yours.

If it's not your site, you're just a little bit dopey for publicizing the website of a competitor for the business you say you're hoping to start, especially on a forum that prohibits you from doing the same with your own site once it's up.

I don't see it as "dopey" to post a competitor's website since I'd guess a very small percentage of my intended customers actually see this site. They probably should, but they probably don't.

As someone who is already in the business and can't post my web page here, I also don't appreciate the free publicity you just gave that website on this forum.

I guess I don't see the guy as a threat. If you do, too bad. I broke no rules.

In my opinion, there's really no point to asking people here what they think about that website if you're really just getting into the business and not associated with the site you posted.

The point is clear. This guy works independently instead of for an essay-writing company. I'd like to do the same. However I realize that doing it independently can come off as shady even when the person doing so isn't trying to scam anyone. I raised a similar question for the same reason in another thread and actually had a helpful response.

So, you're either a liar or you're just a little bit dopey

So, according to you, either (A) I'm a liar or (B) I'm dopey

If A, then (C) I'm the sort of person who would try to circumvent the rules by posting a site that's really mine while claiming that it's someone else's.

If B, the reason I'm dopey is that (D) I posted a competitor's site here and can't post my own when I get it going because that would be against the rules, thus giving the edge to my competitor.

But if C, then D isn't a problem because even though I'd posted a competitor's site I could still post my own, pretending it was someone else's, because if A is true then I'm that kind of person.

So if you suspect A at all, then D doesn't make sense as support for B, but that's the support you gave. So given that you have strong suspicisions that A is true, your accusation that B is true if A isn't just doesn't make sense. That is, given you suspect I'm the sort of person who'd pass my own site off as someone else's, it makes no sense for you to think I wouldn't do the same in the future even if I'm not doing it now, so to think I'm hurting myself by posting this site and not being able to post my own, and that I am thus "dopey" just doesn't follow.

So really, the only accusation you can sensibly make here is that I'm lying about it being someone else's site. I knew of course when I made the post that someone might think that, and I can totally understand it. But really you have no evidence one way or the other. All you really know is that I said it wasn't mine and that I'm either being honest or dishonest. But we all already know that everyone is always either honest or dishonest. Good job, you pointed out that what someone posted on an internet message board might not be true. Why not go ahead and add that cigarettes are unhealthy and staring at the sun isn't good for your eyes?

Thanks for the reply. A friend also mentioned the idea of an s-corp and have been considering it, so I'm glad to see the same recommendation come from another source.

As for your question, the best option is to incorporate and avoid using your personal name altogether. From Day 1, use the corporate name for all advertising, domain name registrations, and purchases.

Oh, and this is good news because I don't want my name involved. I want to work in academia for years and don't need future employers thinking I support college students having someone else do their work. I guess I'm just taking an "ends justify the means" view on it all right now.

My initial reaction is that it's pretty obvious that you just posted your own new web page.

Nope, I found it on essaynews.com and thought it'd be a good example. I plan on mine being a lot better too. It's funny when someone not only claims a falsehood to be true, but also claims it's "pretty obvious".

And it was posted there Oct. 24, 2009.

At first this site seemed promising. While I've found some useful information on this forum, in general it seems that people only post when they want to get involved in a fight. Or, like freelancewriter did above, make an accusation and leave. And then there's this christina ***** who wants to turn threads on one topic into a thread about her needing to ask a question, but not actually asking it.

What's your initial reaction to this site: friendlyghostwriter dot com?

This guy is working independently and I may try to do the same, and was just wondering what your reaction is to his site. If you were a customer would you shy away from this site because it's just one guy who could be trying to scam you and not a business, or does it seem safer because it's not some overseas business that could just be trying to scam you? Is there some way he can make himself more credible, such as adding a page to his site for customer reviews...but even then, how would one do so such that it is clear that the reviews are not fake, or is there even a way to show that the feedback is real?

Essay Services / anyone know of s2papers [41]

Merged topic:
Any experiences using S2Papers.com?

I only found one thread that mentioned them and there was little info there. I'm not asking for an advertisement, just for the facts of personal experiences with them. Did they actually pay? Did they pay on time? Things like that are what I'm wondering about.

Thanks for the response. I've actually considered setting up my own website to avoid dealing with potentially fraudulent companies. I know there's plenty of competition out there but any extra income would be great. I don't want to rip anyone off, and I don't want people to worry I'll rip them off. My main concern is that having my name attached to it may hurt me in the future, as I hope to one day have a career in the academic field. I could see a university not wanting to hire a professor who previously wrote papers for college students. But I'll never get there without money for grad school, so here I am.

And just to be clear, I would never use a fake name to avoid that concern. But it is a legitimate concern, so maybe there's some better solution.

Are you kidding? Why would you EVER order from some unaccountable, private party?

WritersBeware, I know this is somewhat unrelated to the Andrew Kaiser question, but if I may I'd like to stray from the main topic for a moment and ask a question. What in your opinion should such a private party - if he/she happens to actually be honest in his/her business practices - do to let people know their not just some unaccountable private party that might not screw them over but just might. Should they register as a business, at least as a sole proprietorship? Would this prevent that shadiness associated with being a private party? Let's be clear: I'm not asking how a fraudulent private party can make themselves appear legitimate, I'm asking how an honest private party can go forward in the business and make it more clear that they are legitimate.

What things in particular should we be looking for with these businesses? My personal interest in essay-writing businesses is as a writer, but I'd guess many of the warning signs are the same for a potential customer as for a potential writer. So, any thoughts on things that are generally bad signs, and things that are generally good signs?

These essay writing businesses...if you do a search online, you can find several of them. What I'm curious about is, do they just hope people end up on their site instead of one of the others, or do they do any other advertising? I haven't seen them advertising online, but the type of ads one sees online usually depend on the sort of sites they go to, so maybe I'm just missing the online ads. I can't remember ever seeing ads on campus for things like this. Sorry if this is a bit off topic.

Well, even when I think the fighting is over and am trying to be nice, you seem to take it the wrong way. I never said that you seemed rude, just that when someone is so adamant and you're not familiar with them yet, it makes them seem hard to trust. I was trying to help you in your efforts to get your point across. Being on the site so long it'd be easy to lose sight of what it looks like to new people on the site, and aren't they the ones you're trying to inform, since the other veterans of the site have already seen your warnings.

Also, if someone asks a question you don't want to answer, or have already answered, you can always let it go instead of answering again and then complaining that they made their own thread instead of relying only upon your post from 2007 that they found through the search feature. Sometimes more up to date info is available, and sometimes info is scattered throughout different threads and someone who has been on the forum for a while and is familiar with the info as a whole might be able to sum things up. They don't have to, but they can, and it's great when they do. It doesn't have to be you. It never has to be you. You never have to say anything if you don't like the question.

I think I get your point, to an extent at least. Different perspectives and all. As someone new to the site, I can offer you this, from my perspective: You seem almost too adamant at times while your opponents in debate seem much more laid back about it. There's nothing wrong with that in itself, but to a newbie it actually makes them seem more believable. I guess it's the whole Me-thinks-the-lady-doth-protest-too-much effect. This time I'm really not attacking you, just giving constructive criticism.

You just seem to be the one on top of exposing the scams, so I just wondering about the ones that have a clean record. You don't have to rate them or say whether you think they do great work, no endorsements or anything. Just that they haven't committed crimes or ripped off their customers or their writers.

Technically that's not an attack, it's just saying that he'd like to see your response and why he'd like to see it. I guess it's a lie, though, so I see your point. But why not just go ahead and respond to the question and ignore him, why even acknowledge him?

Thank you for the information. Are there any of these businesses that you have not found to be fraudulent, and if so, which ones? I'm not asking you to endorse them, just tell which ones you so far have no reason to believe are fraudulent. Of course I realize you can only mention those that are not on the "Do Not Discuss" list, but any you could mention would be helpful.

I don't have to justify my posts, I'm just trying to get answers. It's obvious from the home page that we are allowed to give positive feedback and share our personal experiences with these businesses. WB, I honestly think you might be one of the ones who can help clear this up, if you so wish. Either way, let's not turn it into another fight.

[Moved from]: Wondering about UrgentCustomEssays

I checked and urgentcustomessays.com isn't on the "Do Not Discuss" list, so this should be ok. I did a search and only found one thread that mentioned them. Anyone have any experience writing for them? They don't have a link for people interested in writing for them, but they do give contact info so I guess I can inquire. I'm just wondering if it's even worth the effort to contact them or if they'll just rip me off by not paying. Any help will be appreciated.

Jun 06, 2010

Thanks for the response. Here's what I don't get: Positive feedback and the sharing of personal experiences with these businesses is allowed. I've been told recommendations are not allowed. So how does this work? I can say I had a positive experience with a certain company as long as I don't technically recommend them? And where is the rule about no recommendations? So long as the company isn't on the do not discuss list, why can't we discuss them?

And please, don't take my questions as me trying to start a fight, they are honest questions.

I understand responding when he attacks you, but his response in my thread wasn't an attack on you. I get why you do, but like I said, I'd already seen it (and yes, like you said, that was in previous posts by you), and would rather just ignore him than have to scroll through his lengthy criminal record to see others' responses. Anyway, we each have our reasons.

I know about the rules about the names. That's not the rule I'm talking about. I'm talking about when you tried to say something along the lines of any positive review/feedback being advertising and therefore not allowed, when in fact such feedback is one purpose of this site.

I know about the yuri guy, I read several posts before making any of my own. But the thing is, that guy is bound to post in some threads here and there. We can ignore his short post and take it with a grain of salt.

It's not in the trash, you idiot, I just came to it again through the list of posts. Yes, I am arguing with you in multiple threads, and you're arguing with me in multiple threads. I was only rude after you tried to enforce false rules. You were the one proven wrong when you finally realized you were going by old rules that are no longer in place, and then whined because the rules recently changed and the mods didn't notify you in the forum. You had to keep disrupting my attempt to ask certain questions, saying we weren't allowed to talk about such things and that the answers would be advertisements because any positive review is, according to you, a advertisement. Now you're saying that you would have answered if I hadn't been rude. But that means you would have been doing what you were telling others not to do. You may think I was rude first, but I found it rude that you posted a very long criminal record of that yuri guy in one of my threads. Sure, that info is useful but you've already posted it elsewhere, and it was unnecessary to take up so much space of my thread with it. I don't know why you don't want my questions answered, and I really don't know why you are now pretending as though you would have answered them.

Essay writers, I need advice

I'm trying to get started with one of these businesses as an essay writer, but I don't know which one to use. I don't want to get ripped off by someone who doesn't pay me for my work, I just want to make a little extra money to pay the bills. Since many of the people here seem to have done this type of work before, I'd love to hear what feedback you guys have on these places from the writer/employee point of view. Telling your own stories is allowed here, and giving positive feedback isn't the same as advertising. Let's avoid explicitly mentioning names that are on the "Do Not Discuss" list, but that doesn't mean we can't get our points across. Let's not argue about the rules either, the mods can take care of enforcing the rules. Let's just have a friendly, productive discussion on where to make a little money as essay writers without getting scammed.

Glad to see you don't "resort to attacks, insults, and name-calling" like we do.

By the way, this isn't advertising: the yahoo group isn't about making money, it's just a complimentary site to ones like this one, a place to spread the discussion. I plan to also direct people from that site to this one, once some people join. If the mods consider this advertising, I understand and won't complain if they take it down.

No, it's ok, I'll quote you, from the other thread:

Somewriter, with all due respect, if you don't like the rules of the forum, nobody is forcing you to participate.

It seemed to me you were telling me to leave this site and go to the "five million other sites that special in freelance writing jobs and information," while I was wanting to know which of these sites were scammers. That's why it seemed irrelevant when you brought it up the first time, and why I thought you didn't get my point when you brought it up a second time. If I was wrong, then please specify, what exactly were you saying about these freelance writing sites.

Jun 05, 2010

Yes, I wanted to hear any positive feedback someone might have from their personal experience as a writer for such companies. That's allowed.

What, can't back it up?

Ha ha, I love winning.

Jun 05, 2010

Even when you admit you're wrong, you can't admit that you admitted it. When you finally acknowledged that what I was saying about the rules was right (which implies that what you were saying was wrong), that's admitting you're wrong. I understand if you were going by old rules and didn't realize that things had changed, and that as someone who just came to the site yesterday and saw the rules I had that advantage. It's not my fault the mods didn't notify you of the changes. But the fact is, the rules are what they are, despite whatever they were, and I was talking about what the rules are now, not what they used to be.

Also, I get what you're saying about people lying about the companies, claiming to have been paid by them. I know that's a possibility. I know that people lie, and I know people lie a lot online. But I'm a grown up and I have a right to check out all the responses and see what I think. The company can have 50 people come on and lie about getting paid, but if just one person tells me they didn't then I won't work with that company. Of course, that person could be a liar too, but I'm going to be very cautious about such things so any bad feedback is pretty much a dealbreaker for me. And I realize that in many cases we're not allowed to tell each other the name of the particular site, but we can still discuss this using initials and such, or by exchanging email addresses if so desired. We are adults and have a right to hear from many sources and decide which ones to believe. If that sometimes leads to a mistake, then so be it; we have the right to make that mistake.

you never commented on your embarrassingly ignorant and rude comments to me for mentioning "freelance writing" sites in relation to "would-be essay writers."

My point about capitalizing the word "scam" was that you emphasized the name of the site was essay scams, not essaysuggest, essaypromote, etc. My point was that we understand that this site is about scams, and that we were talking about avoiding scams. Let's try to turn these into more fruitful discussions.

I hope the mod is ready for the cans of worms.

Ok, so you admit that I am right about the current rules and you can see that what you've been saying over and over about the rules is actually incorrect, but you can't understand why someone would think the guy tell falsehoods over and over is a fool, and in return decide that I must be the fool? Hilarious. I don't blame forum regulars if they don't go to the home page often, there's nothing wrong with that. But if you don't actually want to check and make sure you're not wrong about the current rules before trying to enforce what you believe to be the rules, then something is wrong with that. But it seems the issue is settled and I hope you'll no longer tell people they can't discuss their own experiences. I also hope you'll let the mods do their job when it comes to decided what is and isn't advertising. If they don't like a post, they are free to delete it. But you are not a mod. I wish you luck with exposing frauds and sharing useful information, but please stop interrupting people who are doing nothing worse than using this site for one of its intended purposes.
