For those with the talent, I've been wondering if there aren't niche opportunities available for academic writers in Swahili, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Arabic, for example.
I belong to Pakistan where Urdu and English are the two languages that we need to deal with in academia and elsewhere. I think there are surely many opportunities available in these languages as well. I am quite sure of the Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese) language because I have personally communicated with a few writers in that market.
Secondly, my experience as a language learner tells me that language learning is a matter of personal interest, and more importantly, exposure to that language. Possibly, you've had not much exposure to French though you have been living there for the past 3 years.
