hm... it's rather not insulting anyone, rather than just the 'bad guys'. Oh well, the choice is yours...

A forum is a place for discussion, which it is by pure definition, a phenomenon started in ancient Rome. (I know WIki is not good for a reference, but then this is not a scholarly discussion). And there is and should be a difference between a chat (=conversation of two) and a forum (= that of many).

I have no idea what this means.

What I meant is that a part of being professional is being ethical (among other things). This, in turn, implies (at least in my understanding), that phrases like 'egg-sucker', 'ahole' and such are not to be used towards a person one doesn't even know in person (or is it just general politeness?). But I figured these two have a lasting 'relationship' in this forum, so I am taking away my previous passages.

Agree. The 'phenomenon' didn't, it's the word I was referring to (e.g. internet forum vs. forum in Rome). I was thinking of a Greek Agora when posting that message, but thought it would pass unnoticed :-P

My point being, from experience on other Internet forums, is that whenever something similar happens on a regular forum, moderator comes in and kicks some ass. But again, in view of quote 1 and the fact that this forum looks like a place for writing just about anything you think, my point seems irrelevant. Adieu!

A couple of things I could suggest - register, then take a small order, wait until you get paid; and once that happens, go for it.

Up-front fees = bad
Fines = bad

After reading this forum for a while it gets quite confusing - everyone is dumping tons of **** over other companies and writers, questioning their mental abilities or calling them 'pigs', 'egg-suckers', 'aholes' etc just on the basis of their nationality. Am I being wishful thinking people are good?

Back in Russia, in the times of Catherine II used to do this trick with comas: whenever the question arose whether to execute or spare life, she could just put a coma in the following:

Execute can't forgive

Cases could be two:
Execute, can't forgive (=death)
Execute can't, forgive (=mercy)

It doesn't translate that well, but you get the message

Strange researcher you are. You say you are good at research and then solemnly declare that some basic research is merely a waste of time. Hm....

On the other hand, there is a lot of controversy going on here (and you have spotted it I think): while some people say a company is good, other say it's a rip-off. To find an answer, you'd better start looking for alternative sources of information. Your research skills will for sure come handy in this case.

Ok, I got the word "Comma" wrong, admit that.

I also have to admit that you are a great demagogue, but nothing more than that.

I shall use that as an example of how NOT to use the comma. YOu cannot in English use a comma to connect two clauses like this.

I would say I can:

Two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) or having a complementary relationship may or may not be separated by commas, depending on preferred style, or sometimes a desire to overcome ambiguity.

Regarding the degree vs. diploma phrasing, I will take note of that. However I am sure you understood the question (metonymy was rather obvious there), but still evaded the question. And I was not asking "rather pointlessly", as you put it - I am selecting a school to continue my education, and if that's what they teach you at school, then your "superior British educational system" sucks big time. Feel sorry for the remaining 7%.

I apologize for that of course. Obviously I recognize that is not so. Being polite and having respect for other is not part of any university curriculum, because this should be taught in kindergarten and primary school. I just can't put up with how uneducated in her education Melissa is. :-P

I major in Linguistics, however I want to refocus and pursue a business degree with an emphasis in Finance and/or Management. It appears that the best business schools are essentially in the US - correct me if I am wrong.

At first I was going to say that it was like Serbia was a part of Yugoslavia, a better example would be to say that Slovakia is a part of Czech Republic. But what difference does it make if you are still confusing Russian with Ukraine?

History Research Paper



The start of discussion in this thread was prompted by Nathraq, responding to one of OxbridgeFella's previous posts.

It appears nathraq believes Oxbridge was wrong when s/he said the USSR entered WW2 in 1941, however I tend to support this claim.

I would like to discuss this because of the possible differences in the teaching doctrines of our countries. Take me, for example: I grew and went to school in post-soviet period, where the influence of old teachings was still strong.

Now, I claim that the USSR entered WWII on June 22, 1941 when German soldiers invaded its territory (which all was part of the Barbarossa plan). This was back then viewed as a treacherous attack of Germany, which was not expected at all (however massive evidence suggest that Stalin repeatedly ignored intelligence reports claiming Germany was preparing an attack).

Wonder if nathraq's post was made in the heat of the argument or made out of a firm belief this was so (or perhaphs this is what Western historians think of this).

The purpose of this thread is not to start another verbal fight, but rather to try to find a consensus on how history was (and continues to be) interpreted. OxbridgeExpert who should be lobotomized, is by no means welcome to join.
