@FreelanceWriter, it's just a heightened way of having a web presence. It's an anchor that can directly lead the client to your website for more information. The idea is to have a snippet of a writing sample, either through a tweet or a blurb about your services that could interest the student in learning more about your services. The social media presence is always anchored to a verifiable website. That's how the system works. It is similar to the way ES works. You blog / Vlog, tweet, or post a status update and then add a link to your website. Any interested student will be automatically directed to your website. That often takes care of the question regarding the status and abilities of a writer found on social media. That is the only reason I am also on social media at the moment. It all boils down to business advertising in the new century. Independent private writers need to keep up with the times to remain relevant and searchable by potential clients.
There are available statistics that show students doing more and more searches for services that they need through social media search boxes as opposed to Google, Bing, and other search engines. That is because the internet browsing dynamic is changing and leaning more towards people, and by extension, potential clients, spending more time on social media as opposed to doing searches online. That is why I have a social media presence that I pay for.
I don't want competitor ads on my social pages, but I do not mind appearing on my competitor's site. By paying for my social space, Twitter and FB also boost my ad presence on relevant pages (including non-paying competitor pages / profiles) and also well positions my links on the pages that my ads are directed towards. I think you would benefit from that sort of service as well. You could schedule the ads for the hot seasons or leading up to it to increase your web presence, aside from participating at this forum. You don't have to pay for ads year round if you don't want to (I prefer to). You can schedule the ads for any time that you think you need it to help boost your web presence. You can also make a little on the side by accepting relevant advertising on your FB and Twitter pages if you wish to.
