Confused : At first, it doesn't appear to be a scam, it's BBB-accredited too (link posted on their site). But BBB-membership is only one of the factors and there were instances of an offshore service paying for membership and got listed. There are some foreign / Ukrainian services that managed to be the member only because they registered as a corporation in Delaware, Nevada, or Maryland.

Bachelor's degree should be good enough for most example research orders. But then how would you write a dissertation if you haven't written one yet? It involves much more than error-free grammar to properly plan, research, and write a dissertation.

Us writers need to revolt and set up our own company

The problem is, setting up and running a legitimate company (that means paying taxes too) is not as easy as setting up a new email account under a fake name and credentials...

Stop the writer rip-off.

There are many writers from US-speaking countries that work on elance/freelancer/fiverr-type of websites and make as little as $5 per page. Self-rip-off?

throw us away like trash

Very few companies would get rid of an excellent and reliable writer (who doesn't lie about his/her credentials or location).

We deserve the majority of the customer's money and customers will agree.

I think customers don't care how much writer vs company gets as long as they receive a completed order written to their exact specifications and by an established deadline.

I see most (if not all) of these domains have been disabled. That may suggest the people behind them are not in business any more. One thing is certain - the person named "Hala" would make a very successful politician; she appears to have extraordinary interpersonal and persuasive communication skills.

No single freelancer bothers to warn students about the usability extent of the papers, right?

Actually, that was my question too; you may want to reply there.

We all know that no student is going to spend up to $3000 for a dissertation only for him to use it as a 'guideline'

A dissertation is a tricky subject because you cannot just submit it and forget about it; there is preliminary research, topic choice, revisions, additions, meetings with advisor, etc. So it's an overstatement to say a student buys a 100-page dissertation, submits it, and gets a diploma. Writing a dissertation is a long process and the actual writing part is usually the easiest one.

I guess there is much noise about 'plagiarism' because all students (whether they use reference writing services or not) use Internet sources and spun/rewrite/repackage them; some do it correctly, others don't. I personally think the majority of students who get caught plagiarizing are the ones who write their own essays.

No, you cannot be expelled (even if they forward emails to your university). But you may "lose" your work if they publish it under their own name before you do and some anti-plagirism software marks it as plagiarized.

General Talk / Blackmailed by writer [19]

You're an "idiot" not because you contracted an independent contractor from this site, but because you contracted an anonymous "writer" who uses a fake name and a gmail / outlook / yahoo / hotmail / aol / or other anonymous account.

they are blackmailing me unless i pay 275 dollers they will email my university and publish my work which i may be able to use the 7000 words i have written in the summer.

If you really feel they would publish your work, you may consider posting it first here: https://essayscam.org/forum/fe/ (or on your own blog if you have one) under your real name. That way you should be protected from a "copied work" claim.

In theory, a good and resourceful freelance writer who manages to find and maintain a steady flow of clients (mostly by word of mouth advertising) is better / more qualified than a writer who is only waiting for orders supplied by companies. A poor writer cannot thrive in the competitive environment of thousands of online writers so he or she has to rely on company orders (and be forced to work for lower rates).

Is this hypothesis true or false? :)

It's sort of funny to realize some of the discussions here are like politics. If someone has an interest in a particular service or action and this interest or action is restricted then it is a violation of the Lanham Act. If the same happens to other parties, it would suddenly be professional and the right thing to do. Sigh :).

My point about Google and Bing was that they don't check if a service is legitimate or not (even if they wanted to, how would they do it?) and allow to advertise their services. IF not, they would receive a letter from the FCC or other governmental agencies.

They don't have to go to library to find materials.

Good point :). 10-15 years ago writers would have to physically go (walk / drive) to a library to do research. Now they can do it instantly, 24/7.

As far as I know, all legitimate writers and services would refuse to work with students who insinuate that they plan to commit academic violation. Maybe that's why there are so few legitimate services or writers in this industry.

Do freelance writers here believe that what they're doing is totally on the up & up?

You'd have to ask active freelance writers here.

Essay Services / why study now - review? [3]

I don't have any first-hand experience with them; at first, they look legit. Do you mean whystudynow.com?

However, they claim they do:

Online tests, quizzes or homework

which puts them on the 'we help you cheat' category. They would surely not be recommended by any serious academic institution or a US/UK-based attorney.

Up until about a day ago, I had no idea that essay writing was even a thing.

Then why did you select in your profile you are a 'Writer'? :)

Most of legitimate freelance writers use their real name, but some use a pseudonym. If you want to be serious about your job, stick to one name / pseudonym only. Better yet, develop your own, unique writing service website and promote it in your email, for example: me@dreiserwriting.com. Scammers use dozens of different and disposable email addresses / names, so you don't want to follow their way.

Do freelance writers ever guarantee results?

If by results you mean 'passing grades' then no - it's not legal to help students cheat.

The essay writer said there is a huge market for his services, and finding clients is easy because there are always students with money who don't want to do the work.

"This is one of the jobs where there is so much demand out there," he said.

The same essay writer has to spam different websites, use multiple English-sounding names / emails, and offer a 30% discount on their services. The "huge market" legend is still alive ; ).

"These people don't care about school and like to party," he said. "They just want to graduate and that's it."

I've seen web copies with a similar theme. "You go party, we will do your essay." Where do these journalists find those "essay writers" who think students use example research services for no other reason than to have fun?

Word of mouth (either direct or through social media) usually works best because it suggests that you or a writing service are in fact recommendable through the previous work. So the better service you provide, the more percentage of your customers will be word of mouth. It's important to note, though, that a smart student should never fully trust "indirect recommendations" from people he/she doesn't personally know. For example, it's common for a dishonest academic research provider to claim that his/her "friend" used this or that writer / service and s/he liked it.

Advertise Your WritingOrganic search - here the quality of your service doesn't correlate with the number of visitors your essay help website will receive. There are many writing providers that rank well in search engines, but it doesn't necceserily mean their service is worthwhile.

Paid advertising - there are two popular forms of paid advertising: time-based (a link placed on a website for an established amount of time) and click/action-based (advertiser pays every time someone clicks on a promotional link). Time-based advertising doesn't require any special monitoring and is usually worry-free. Click/action based advertising is more complex and requires more monitoring tools, but it is usually well-targeted.

Regarding the ratio of returning clients.. it seems legitimate word of mouth advertising of essay services tends to win, but since it's easy to spoof it is not very reliable these days.

Also - if you are a freelance writer, you may set up a free writer profile here; the following are the conditions / benefits of having a profile set up:

A Regular Writer profile is FREE and available through essayscam.org/freelance-writers/{your_email} and essayscam.org/freelance-writers/{username}/ (which is forwarded to the /freelance-writers/{your_email} page). As long as your forum Rating is above the established threshold (currently: 0), anyone who knows your Email or forum Username can view a summary of your public Writer Profile. This page is not indexable in search engines.

- The "Aspiring Regular Freelance Writers" Listing - up to 3 regular freelance writers who post at least 2 useful/comprehensive message/s within 48 hours in public forum discussions will have their Writer Profile listing prominently displayed on the Freelance Writers page (essayscam.org/freelance-writers/). Listing in this section is not dependent on the Rating score, so all freelance writers have a chance for free advertising. PLEASE NOTE - writers who violate the usefulness / comprehensiveness rule may have this profile listing disabled.

A Featured Writer profile requires a 3/6/12-month subscription, which can be cancelled at any time with no further commitment. It is always (regardless of your Rating) available and visible to the public through a dedicated Writer Profile page at: essayscam.org/freelance-writers/{username}/, essayscam.org/freelance-writers/{your_email} (if you choose to publicize your email), or essayscam.org/freelance-writers/profile-XXXXXX/ (if you prefer to hide your forum username and posting history). Furthermore, a Featured Writer has the word 'Featured' next to his or her username on forum profile and forum discussion pages. This page is indexable in search engines. By default, Featured Writers on essayscam.org/freelance-writers/ pages are sorted by 'Popularity' = Rating (writers with a higher Rating score appear first in the results).

- Bonus from EssayChat - academic research service ads of Featured Writers posted at essaychat.com/offered/ will NOT be automatically deleted, regardless of forum posting activity. In addition, a link to the Featured Writer Profile will be published within the 'Recommended Academic Freelance Writers' section on the EssayChat Live Chat page: essaychat.com/live/.

- A Writer Profile (both Regular and Featured) can be made Visible (available to the public) or Invisible (unavailable to the public) at any time.

- Writing services / agencies are allowed to advertise, provided they have a dedicated person (a freelance writer) with a personalized email who represents the company.

- The value of the Country field is typically important to prospective buyers / students, but it is not the most critical factor determining the writer's actual research skills, English-language level, and professionalism. We believe that through active participation in the forum, writers will have a chance to show their writing, research, and reasoning abilities in a much better way than before. However, blatant abuse - which could lead to potential confusion and uncertainty among potential buyers - will not be tolerated.

In recent weeks, I've been studying SEO (search engine optimization) in more detail in the context of online writing, editing, and research services. Here are the results of my research which may be practical to genuine freelance writers, academic paper writing services, and all other kinds of online businesses. I realize this post will also be read by people who are actively engaged in sabotaging of their competition, but now they may at least stop fooling themselves that they act under the radar.

NEGATIVE SEO ATTACK - THE IDEA

There is an ongoing threat from rogue companies and/or individuals who become involved in fraudulent cyber activates called "negative SEO attacks." The attackers usually try to sabotage websites that they are unable to compete against in normal circumstances. The goal of a negative SEO attack is to trigger a search engine penalty (either manual or algorithmic). Once a website is marked as penalized, it loses organic search engine traffic which may have very negative consequences for the business.

Link researchA typical negative SEO attack of a writing service website takes up to a few weeks. It involves creating a massive amount of unnatural links and pointing them to the attacked website. The anchor text (the keywords used in a link) of the inbound links is usually closely related to the website's theme in the hopes of covering up the operation and creating confusion. In general, the attackers hope that search engines will penalize a website that has obtained hundreds or thousands of unnatural links. At first sight, the links may look "natural" because the anchor text is actually related to the website's theme which may initially suggest that the website owner was the one who acquired the links. However, the fact that the links are usually published on low-quality and spammy websites (including foreign ones) that have little to do with the attacked website's theme is a good indication that it is, in fact, sabotage.

Obviously, Google and Bing aren't able to determine who is/was behind building the damaging links. There is so much spam on the Internet that, as a general rule, it has been safe to assume that it's usually the website owner who - willingly or unwillingly - does the damage to their own site. However, that's not always the case, especially in the last couple of years when the negative SEO trend against writing and research services has been on the rise.

Fortunately, thanks to Google's and Bing's efforts and the raising awareness of the "white hat" SEO community, there are now established and successful ways of dealing with a negative SEO attack against a writing service.

NEGATIVE SEO ATTACK - THE SOLUTIONS

Since it is impossible to control who links to your site, the most important aspect of the solution is to monitor the quality and quantity of backlinks pointed to your website. Both Google: google.com/webmasters/ and Bing: bing.com/toolbox/webmaster offer Webmaster Tools where you can add your website and monitor backlink activities. There are also some commercial link monitoring tools that usually work faster and are more accurate than general search engine spiders.

When you notice unnatural links pointed to your website or when there is a manual or algorithmic penalty against your website, Google and Bing suggest to first contact webmasters of websites that link to your site and ask them to remove the spammy/low-quality/unnatural links. Contacting other webmasters may be time-consuming and not always very successful, but it is usually worth the effort because removing each link means one problem less. It often happens that the actual website owners aren't aware of the fraudulent activities going on their own websites due to the fact that many of them outsource web development / SEO to other companies or individuals who abuse their power. If your site received a manual penalty notice, it is important that you document your link removing efforts in a separate text or spreadsheet file because this document may be needed and helpful when you submit a reinclusion/reconsideration request.

If your website has hundreds or thousands of bad links pointed to your site, it will not be possible to remove them all by contacting webmasters. In that case, you will have to use a Disavow Tool (offered both by Google and Bing). The Disavow Tool was designed to "neutralize" toxic backlinks. It is fairly simple to use. All you need to do is to collect bad URLs and/or domains and include them (each in a separate line) in a disavow.txt file.

For example, if you want to disavow this sample URL:

somebadwebsite.com/malicious-link-page.php,

you just copy-paste it to the text file; in consequence, all bad links posted on this particular web page will be "neutralized." However, in most cases, it is safer to disavow the whole domain or subdomain because that way you don't have to worry about any other bad links that may be published in the future on the same domain. In order to disavow the whole domain or subdomain, you need to add the following in the disavow text file:

domain: somebadwebsite.com (# for domains)
domain: subdomain.somebadwebsite.com (# for subdomains)

There is an extremely handy and free tool that can make the process of creating a disavow file simple: https://urltodomain.com/.

Once you've created a disavow.txt file, you need to upload it to your Webmaster Tools - Google: google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main, Bing: bing.com/webmaster/help/how-to-disavow-links-0c56a26f. After that, it is a very good practice to continue monitoring your backlinks and if you find more attacking URLs or domains, you need to upload a new disavow file (important: do not delete any previously uploaded URLs or domains from the newly uploaded file).

If your website received a manual penalty notice or if you think there's something wrong about its organic rankings, you may file a reconsideration request (Google: google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration, Bing: support.microsoft.com/en-us). It should be done after you contacted other webmasters to remove bad links and/or uploaded the disavow tool to your Webmaster Tools account.

Depending on the situation, it may take between a few days and up to a few weeks to receive a reply from Google or Bing. The first reply may not always be positive; if that's the case, you need to repeat the process (this time try to be more detail-oriented) and file a reconsideration request again. On the other hand, it is believed that the URLs or domains submitted through the disavow file are working much sooner towards your website's recovery success.

Apart from disavowing links you are not responsible for, there's an additional way of "disinfecting" bad links. It requires access to a .htaccess file (this file needs to be created and uploaded to the website's main directory, usually called "public_html"). Using the urltodomain.com tool, you can create a HTTP_REFERER list of domains that you don't want to have anything to do with and paste it into your .htaccess file. That way you will deny access to all links posted on bad domains or subdomains (ie. such backlinks should not work against your website because they should not be counted as valid links)

-----------------

The ideas and steps described above should make all writing, editing, and research service owners aware of the actions going on behind the scenes that may negatively impact their online service or any other business. The provided solutions should help them recover or improve the recovery process of their websites and increase their visibility in search engines. I hope legitimate readers of this forum: honest freelance writers, new or established research services, essay editors, students, and other companies will find this post helpful and informative. By now they should know how to successfully fight back against the malicious practices of those who turn to dishonest and fraudulent search engine manipulation activities.

Are you statistically more likely to get someone legit through a site than through a yahoo account? Yes? Maybe? I don't know? If you were to choose one of each, randomly, I bet you'd end up with two frauds.

It is only one, but important, signal out of several. Let's say there are 100 of active writers who visit this forum every day. 60 of them use @gmail account, 35 use @yahoo account, 5 use their own domains and custom email (for example me@99essays.com). A smart student knows that a @gmail or @yahoo account can be registered for free at any country and after every failed order, so the chances of working with a legitimate writer based in an English-speaking country are slim. Just by registering your own domain and using your own custom email you are ahead of 95% of other writers.

Students are much better served by some of the other techniques that have often been suggested, like placing a small order for an assignment with a long deadline and seeing how it goes.

The "place a small order first" technique is prone to fraud too. If you watch EssayChat posts you'll notice there are some "clever" writers (usually from Africa) who get a student to pay for a "trial" order and then they pretend to be a student seeking a legitimate writer to complete 5-10 pages of a bigger assignment. After the first 5-10 pages are delivered, the student pays the full amount and the outcome is usually not pretty.

If Major's "rule" is a rule, then it falls under the category of "rules are made to be broken."

I suggested that most of them (not all). Still, it costs $10 to register a domain and $1 per month to host a branded email (total cost: $22 per year). There must be a hidden reason why most essay writers choose to have several different email accounts and names when working as an academic freelancer.

A simple rule is - if someone using a @yahoo, @gmail, @msn.com, @outlook, @hotmail, etc. contacts you to offer their services, they are not genuine (ie. they usually lie about their credentials or location).

Another tip - search the forum and find a (positive) trend related to discussed website/s or writer/s.

Last resort for lazy students - visit EssayDirectory.com and pick a recommended site or writer from there. The chances you pick a reliable service are high.

Ok - I thought you are a newly set up writer at the company. I believe if you are a new writer, a company is not willing to give you a difficult and urgent order; they want to make sure you are capable of delivering an easy order first.

On the other hand, if there are 20 bids on a single order then it means there are not enough orders for every writer...
Major
Jan 19, 2014

If your account has been set up recently you should focus on orders that are "easy" and are not due too soon.

If you've got a degree in the social sciences, I'd suggest you improve your present level of expertise - by trying to write in as many areas of social sciences as possible. It will also be appropriate to try your hands in other fields. However, you should work only on those projects you're sure you're good at.

Working with companies requires a lot of patience. The most important thing is your reputation. Once you develop it, client will come to you and your work will increase. However, if you are too worried to earn more at this stage, I am afraid to say that instead of the clients coming to you, you might be faced with a lot of revisions.

thanks to the marking service, I spotted the problem and rewrote the essay

The most important thing is that you actually rewrote it because it's illegal to submit model essay for a grade (it's also illegal in most countries to guarantee any grade).

Btw. things like lack of italization etc. don't make a bad essay. And you should consult more than one "marker" to give you a true idea about the quality of the essay.

I once had a client who reposted several of the papers I wrote for him.

Assuming he paid for the papers, why was it so upsetting? IF he did a chargeback, that's another story, but if he paid and posted them it shouldn't be a big deal.
