I really cannot understand how this company manages to stay in business. How do they manage to keep the students fooled with regards to the actual quality of work that their writers provide? It is all because the website is shiny and looks class? So the students equate the gloss of the site with the quality of work? Should students be to blame for the continued existence of the company? It is beginning to look that way.

@oscarruiz
Not only that, but sites like SiteJabber now allow them to pay for positive reviews. As long as they pay to advertise, they can also have their negative reviews removed while increasing their positive reviews through paid writer testimonies.

General Talk / Essay Writing Mills Illegal? [18]

I wonder if by "essay mills" they also mean authors for hire / freelancers?

Yes, they do. As long as one is involved in the academic writing business, the law covers you. It does not selectively apply. Rather, it applies to all of those involved in academic essay writing and research. A consultancy, if it is a legitimate one, is a different case.

Writing Careers / Should I bother with Academon? [39]

Not everything is published freely online.

Agreed. However the essays they were selling had a lifespan. The information was valid only for 5 years at the most, making it difficult to sell the older papers. As TurnItIn became more and more used by the schools, the pre written essays started to become a problem as universities began uploading essays to the system. Plagiarism became a real problem for the students, who thought it better to hire a writer to create a fresh essay instead. So the pre written essay market "died".

Writing Careers / Should I bother with Academon? [39]

academon.com

They went out of business with the dinosaurs. When the market for pre-written essay sales dried up, they tried to change their business model several times and failed big-time each and every time. There was just no way to sustain their business since they were not run by business minded people. They were surviving based on an outdated business model that could not be revised to generate income for them once it came time to evolve the business. They would not have survived the onslaught of AI in essay writing anyway.

@FreelanceWriter
These are factual information coming from you. I have asked students to try and ask AI to give them their resources information and properly format the page in terms of expected writing formats, AI failed to do both. Then I asked the student if, based on that sample, he could finally understand why AI is simply never to beat a paper written by the student himself, or a writer hired to complete the work. The human factor is of huge importance in developing class papers these days. Teachers are on to the AI wave and know how to spot an AI written paper when submitted by the student. I do not know which is worse, plagiarism, or AI written papers. Whichever, it is the student who will pay the price in the end.

@formerstudent
Sadly, the student will not be graded on grammar alone for their papers. The papers still need to make sense and show a degree of actual research in the presentation. That is what the professors grade on. That is also why AI is easily spotted by the trained eye. AI can produce 250 words of unusable information in some instances because it cannot produce a logical thought on its own, nor analyze the information it finds online. It is not gifted with the sense of reading comprehension the way a human writer is. That is the main problem with AI written essays at this time.
noted
Aug 08, 2024

I have read that plagiarism detection tools are now being tweaked to sense when a paper was quite possibly written by an AI. I find this laughable since there are times when an ESL writer churns out papers that read like badly written AI output.
noted
Aug 07, 2024

Plagiarism detection tools are capable of picking up on copy pasted sections of any paper that is submitted to them. So it is important that these sections are either rephrased or rewritten, with proper citation, so that the detection software can get past it. The degree of this detection happening is higher when an AI is used to write or research any sort of paper.

How can @formerstudent say that the company is still doing the same thing today when Ivy Dissertation seems to have gone out of business some time ago? Does this mean that you are a writer who actually knows that the company is still existing but under a different name? If that is so, then do the right thing and warn the students here. Give us the new company name so the students can avoid dealing with them in the future.

There is a reason why Google and other AI development companies are frequenting forums and social media. They are releasing the AI in these circles in an effort to help it learn how to sound more human and less mechanical. The companies actually employ human beings to help develop a more human sounding AI. Do not be fooled. These companies know exactly what they are doing. They know exactly how to increase their profits using AI and they know they can use humans to acheive that automated goal. Yes, I believe that the time will come when humans and AI will be living and working side by side, whether we like it or not.

The type of service that the OP ordered from them is irrelevant at this point. All that matters is that he was conned and he lost while the company that he trusted gained financially from him. The OP lost not only money, but a chance at a decent academic grade as well. There is really no reason for him to say anything more than he has already said. He was warning the other students so they would not suffer the same fate that he did.

Aug 06, 2024

Yup. There is a tool these days. The claim is that there is nothing that AI cannot write for an office, which is why bosses no longer keep their executive assistants busy with such mundane tasks. They just input the information for the letter or proposal into the app then hit enter or generate. Then they wait for whatever crap the AI will spew out. Now, automation is good for quick jobs or drafts of these proposals or memos. For the actual, professional, and informative stuff, you will always need a human writer to edit, revise, and rewrite whatever it is that the AI created.

I think Kenyans have moved on from their academic writing scams. The industry has tried to create a semblance of legality and professionalism in its trade by asking writer applicants to qualify themselves with valid documentation. They also require transcripts of grades already and proof of college graduation, at the very least. These are documents that Kenyans do not easily come by anymore and not everyone is willing to sell their writer profile anymore to a Kenyan scammer since it is quite difficult to get into the academic writing companies these days. It is almost like applying for a regular job at a company. The process is quite fierce and cut throat. Kenyans would find it difficult to qualify already.

The reason why there was no available information for this website way back in 2020 was most likely because the company was in the process of being taken down. The domain name is actually up for sale right now and the server it is attached to is no longer accepting the handshake. I am pleased to know that these sorts of fraudulent companies are taking themselves offline. If they do come back as another incarnation, we can only hope that they will do so with a more legitimate business presentation that will actually help, rather than damage the students psychologically.

The only active company from the list previously provided is Custom Paper. I assume that is the more responsible of the 3 writing companies? The other 2 companies are officially offline using their listed domain names. Or, we can hope that they are officially offline. I keep forgetting that these companies can just let their domains expire, change servers, then get a new domain name and server to get back into the business. Same bad service, same crappy writers.

Well, I did a quick search for the company as stated above and it appears that the company went out of business ages ago. It is no longer active, nor searchable online. So the students have not had to deal with this problem company for at least several years now. Consider ourselves lucky. We did not have to deal with the negative experiences that this company would have provided the students had they lasted long enough to run a con on the poor students. Things worked out for the best in this case. The students were saved from any potential problems dealing with this company would have produced.

Essay Services / Assignmenthelppro.com scam [3]

Thank you for bringing this academic writing company to our attention. The students here will definitely benefit from reading about your experience. The fact that you included screenshots lends more strength to your claims that they do sloppy jobs. The fact that their agent would not even acknowledge that their writer did a bad job leaves me quite angry. It is obvious that they knew the assigned writer was not skilled and yet, they could not refund your money even though it is within reason to ask for a refund. Please keep us informed about your refund plight with them and also, please consider hiring an independent writer next time to avoid problems like these in the future. You can easily source independent writers here.

These days, Linda could easily come across as an ENL writer with the use of AI. That is how some of the 3rd world writers are getting by these days, much to the dismay of the students who eventually learn that they were duped into paying someone to simply use AI to write the essay. Something they could have done themselves, for free.

It is important to note that ESL writers do have their uses, when servicing ESL students in need of an essay. An AI can also sound like an ESL student if asked to write in that manner. However, it is still best to have a human being write an essay for you since an AI cannot equal the writing skills of a real person.

Freelancers: Be cautious with freelancers; check their credentials and request samples.

Personally, I would be more weary of company based writing services and their writers. That is because these companies often engage in the practice of bait and switch wherein the quality of the sample they provide does not match the actual output of their services once paid for.

Quality Over Cost: Investing in more expensive, established writers often yields better results.

Again, I have to disagree with this. This is a rule that supposedly works only for the academic writing companies. Established independent writers who have a track record with their clients could offer discounted fees for repeat clients. Prices per page may also be discussed with new clients depending upon the number of pages and difficulty of the work to be provided. Never assume that expensive will remain expensive.

Just continue to ignore their emails. They may harass you all they want but if you ignore them, they will eventually stop. They are trying to wear you down and get a reaction from you. Ignore it. Stop being so scared of them. There is nothing they can do to harm you. They cannot file any charges with your school and emailing you at your office address does not serve a purpose. Do not respond to them and they will stop. Do not be afraid of them and they lose their hold / power over you.

@Baba84
They sent an email to your work email address or they sent an email to your boss? Those are 2 different things. If they sent an email to your work address then block their address from your office computer. You are not supposed to be giving out your work email address to people unless it is work related in the first place. There is nothing you can do now except block and ignore. Send it directly to spam.

As for the image that you posted here, there is a time frame given than allows you to delete or edit the post you made. Since that time has passed, you should contact the forum moderators and admin, requesting that they assist you in deleting the image from the server. You cannot do it by yourself at this point.

That's very good to know. It shows that you are willing to build the trust factor with the students in any way that they wish to. It also gives the students peace of mind knowing that you are on the level with them to that extent. There would be no reason for them not to hire you other than the price consideration I think. If they can afford you or not becomes the vital question in the end.

A very useful tip is to hire a writer who is willing to talk to you in person. It could be a phone interview although a video conference call would be preferred. Sometimes, you have to see the writer to believe what he is saying. His body actions in relation to your questions and given explanations are very important when considering hiring him. You can pretty much tell if he will be a legit writer or, be the lord of all headaches, once you see the writer in person. Information may be hidden by oral or chat interviews. Nothing beats a conference call interview before hiring the writer.

There is no need to discredit any company at this point. The company has ceased to exist for some time now. The information that relates to the company is no longer connected to a server although the domain name remains active. Therefore, the company was in existence some time in early 2024. It has only been removed from the academic writing game this year. That is good. The paper that it was made to produce sounds too complicated for the skill level of their academic writers. An AI would have probably done a better job of writing any model paper for any student based on a variety of topics and sources.

Both domain names indicated in this thread have come to their end of life cycle. These are no longer being kept active by the company. I am guessing that they are still existing under a different domain name because I have it from reliable sources that the company needed a change of image, along with a new domain name to avoid the problems that their previously hire writers created for them. I hope they learned their lesson and now hire writer's that can actually do the job.

While most of the writers no longer actively post here save for a few, that is not to say that you can no longer find good essay writing services through the forum channels. You will actually pick up a few who are still active, but no longer feel a need to post actively at this forum because their client base has not gone the AI route so they are recession safe at this point. I would still recommend that any student looking for a dissertation writing service start their search at this forum. At least they will be haggling with actual writers who know the job and not some 3rd rate AI user from some 3rd world country.

They do not know if they can survive in an industry where someone better may come along and unintentionally cut into their profits.

Technically, someone better did not come along too cut into their profits. The bright coding minds developed AI and the first target of the code was academic essay writing. They used that field to show people how well the AI could research and write a professionally worded paper. Unfortunately, the AI back then did not pass muster. However, the AI technology in place these days indicates that AI is slowly getting better at writing academic essays and, the codes can actually help the students become better writers, without the aid of a human on the other end. Companies like 4writers will eventually go out of business because their writers lack the training needed to stay ahead of the AI competition.

Essay Services / About EssayPlant.com [9]

The url comes back with a warning. It is a potential security risk and FireFox prevents any further access to the site once the name is loaded into the browser. So the company is still active, but known to be a data collector. What they do with the data they collect is anybody's guess. It is in everyone's best interest to simply steer clear of this site. It is not a reliable nor trustworthy one. If it was just a matter of an expired certificate, the warning would not be so dire to the person trying to access the site. Stay away from it.

Essay Services / Anybody used ukassignments.com? [27]

Well, their deceptions did not help them stay in business. As of 2024, the company url has been taken down and the server is no longer accepting handshakes. The anchor page is now gone from the server. A 404 error, whatever that means, now comes up when you try to load the domain name. It is a company that never learned how to treat its client's properly. Their writers never came up with usable work. So it is no wonder that they eventually went out of business. I just hope that this is not a case of the company simply changing domain names to leave their negative image behind, but continue to work using the same lousy standards.

I have yet to see or hear of a specialized writer participating at this forum. Although some writers tend to claim that they can write any paper, I believe that should be taken with a grain of salt. It is not uncommon for some writers to outsource writing services when it is beyond their skills. That is not a bad thing since it usually turns out to be a reliable referral. I just wish that writer's who know they are not capable of writing a particular paper tells the student upfront that he will recommend a writer instead of pretending to have written the paper himself. While that does not happen often at this forum, it does happen sometimes. So being upfront about it is most important.

Essay Services / Kelli writer reviews [14]

It is impossible to say that all of the writers that sign up for the advertising services of EssayScam are legit. Regardless of all the claims that they may make regarding their track record, years or service, satisfied clients, etc. You can never put it past a writer, who is desperate for work in this age of AI to join the promotional services of this forum and then lie about their credentials once recruited by a student. While there are some legit writers at this forum, there are also those of questionable talents. One of the people with unreliable writing skills was this Kelli person. I will take the student's word for it.

This domain name is currently expired. The company that parks the domain name has left a message for whoever owns the name to please contact them for renewal. So this is a new development. The company only very recently went out of business. It is such a new event that only the domain name has been been allowed to expire. Anyway, the expired domain no longer connects to an active server or, is blocking access to the server until the domain is paid for again. Now would be a good time for somebody to swoop in an purchase the name. Provided the company is really UK based and knows how to get around the anti essay mill law in the country.

Essay Services / Reviews of essaysmaster.com [13]

Wow! They describe themselves as a "profound" writing service. Imagine that. They are using the word out of context. Well, I guess they know the meaning and decided to use it in a sentence. That single sentence alone tells me any student that hires them will get a 3rd rate ESL writer whose submission will be a vocabulary exercise that will not meet the student's instructions. Steer clear of this company. There are other less profound companies that actually use ENL writers that you can hire or, you can always directly hire a writer instead. Anything would be better than hiring someone from essaysmaster because that is the one thing they are not, masters of essay writing.

Academia - Research is open for hiring again. Or at least that is what they lead applicants to believe. They convince the applicant to submit all their documentations and then take a few tests. They ask you to wait 2 weeks for the result, which usually comes as a rejection letter. So why are they pretending to hire writers then? Maybe they just want the private information of these writers for themselves? Has anybody heard as to whether they are using these credentials for themselves already? That could be the only reason for collecting all of these information. That they have only a handful of writers left and they are using fake identities to make it seem like they have more writers in their roster than they actually have.

Funny how the company is now claiming 2 things. The first, is that their writers write plagiarism free work. The second, is that the papers done by the writers are AI free. Well, I know the first claim is bogus since their writers are barely able to string together a sentence. As for the 2nd one, if their writers suddenly developed writing skills, then there is no question that their writer's are using AI to complete the papers. Since their writers are ESL, I do not doubt that they use AI at some point during their writing process.

The email that was received supposedly from EssayScam is a fake. EssayScam will never contact any of these participants with such an email. The whole point of this forum is to expose the scammers by shaming them into stopping what they are doing. EssayScam will not and cannot file any lawsuits on behalf of anybody. You have to remember that because these scammers will take on fake identities if it means that they could probably convince you to give up more of your personal information for their use. Never interact with anyone claiming to be from EssayScam because this, for lack of a better word, a SCAM.

You are right. A seasoned academic writer costs a pretty penny because of the quality of his work. He knows that the student will not request for a refund. Any writer or company that offers any sort of money back guarantee already delivers the message that their writers are not good enough. So they are going to give you a chance to get your money back. I have heard though that the companies that offer refunds do not always honor the promises they make regarding that on their websites. They will find ways and means to keep the money that was paid to them and the student will be left holding the bag.

I think the situation was eventually resolved for the OP. It might have ended badly for the person since the OP has gone radio silent at this forum. It is also important to note when the student no longer discusses anything at this forum. I am starting to believe that those who go quiet decided to pay up, so they do not want to discuss it any further here. Perhaps they were warned against doing so or something. They just want to leave the blackmailing part of their academic life behind.
noted
Jul 29, 2024

These blackmailers will not get anywhere provided you stand your ground. Do not be scared by any fake documentation that they will be sending pretending to be from the UK department of education. They will even fake the logo and an IP lookup will show that they masked their location and source as well. The company is not located in the UK. Why do we know they are not from the UK? If they were in the UK then they would know about the educational act that fully prevents them from functioning as an academic writing company within several locations in the UK. They would not even try to blackmail you because the law will come after them.
