Writing companies have began to crack down on the practice of selling writers accounts. They have began purging their systems of delinquent writers, inactive writers, and questionable writers. In the case of inactive writers, they are given 1 month to explain why their account should not be deactivated. As for "delinquent" writers, the company insists that they prove their identity by presenting valid government ID's before the writer accounts can be unfrozen and the writer profile, set to active again. While the practice of buying and selling the accounts still exists, I do believe that the trend has slowed down over the past years. Mostly because the gig market for direct hire academic writers has taken off, much to the benefit of the student and writer.

I've been luck enough to have a regular slew of referred clients. I never offer a discount or any type of promotional service. I guess I am lucky that way. The clients I have had are so satisfied with the work I provide that they don't hesitate to recommend my services to their friends, family members (can you believe my luck?), and classmates. I guess the referral comes only if the client is truly satisfied with your work and, you have proven to be able to vary your writing style enough from one client to the next (referred) client so that there is no suspicion that the same person wrote the paper. That is normally where the worry comes in for most students and that is what usually prevents them from referring their writer to others, no matter how satisfied they are with the work and how convinced they are that the writer can help someone else out of a tight spot.

The university will not know that the student owns the rights to the paper because they were never supposed to buy a paper to submit in the first place. If a paper comes up as flagged for plagiarism, then the student is sunk. There is no way he can ask the company to write a waiver for submission to the academic honesty committee. That will only make his case worse. Not only did he plagiarize the paper, but he paid someone to write the paper for him. Imagine what the final outcome will be... Exactly. The TOS of companies blur the intellectual copyright of the paper because they totally plan to resell the same paper in the future. So don't ever believe that the full intellectual copyright transfers from writer to company to student. That isn't always (never) the case.

There are some companies that resell the papers after 6 months. It goes into a database along with other similarly themed papers where potential clients can review the essay samples and then buy the one that appeals to them the most. Bear in mind that these are "sample" and "reference" essays. It must not be submitted for a grade. However, I know of some companies that allow the student to purchase the pre-written paper and then pays for the additional service of "paraphrasing" so that the same content can be used, but presented differently. The danger of this practice? Plagiarism software can often detect the paraphrase, which doesn't bode well for the student who wanted to take the easy way to a grade. Either pay for a fresh paper or write the paper yourself. Never buy pre-written essays and research papers. It isn't worth the risk.

Based on the example given by the OP, she was well within reason to request a full revision for this paper. There was definitely no other way to put it. In this instance, the whole essay needed revising, hopefully by a different, more proficient writer. I pity the students who get scammed by these writing companies. Specially when they ask the student to point out the problem parts that need revision. The whole essay normally needs to be redone. In some cases, the company, having already submitted a paper, not necessarily a correct paper, no longer wishes to bother with revisions and other student concerns. They got the money. That's all they wanted. When the company starts dodging the client, etiquette should definitely fly out the window. I hope the client got a refund from this company.

Freelance writers are in a continuing education line of work. That means, an independent writer is constantly in college either as an undergraduate, a masters student, or a PhD candidate. The writer is paid to go back to school, although one cannot take the grade credit in the end. Think about it, a writer needs to learn the material delivered by the student, brush up on his current information regarding specific topics, understand the material, then write about it. Exactly what a student does in school. The difference? The student gets a grade and the writer gets paid. Being in school 365 days a year as a writer is financially beneficial. So yeah, I don't think a writer realizes it because of the fun of the job but, the writer is in school for the whole calendar, not academic year. So the question doesn't really make sense. Academic writers are always back in school.

I find it unbelievable that a mediocre student, who only passed and graduated because he paid his way through college via a ghost writer, would actually blame the writer for the incompetence she showed on the job. That's the problem with students who think money can buy their way through anything, real-life proves to be a rude awakening. This woman, bought college degree and all, is probably not even qualified to flip burgers at the local diner. She never bothered to read the books while someone else did the heavy lifting for her in college, it is all her fault. She can't lay blame for her inability to perform a job she supposedly spent time in college "training" for.

What should a student do in this case? Don't pay and, most importantly, do not use the paper that was given to you. This is one instance where the student doing the research and turning in a truly fresh paper, regardless of whatever grade the student might get, is the best action to take. Why? In case the writer does make good on the threat to submit the plagiarized paper to the person in authority, their blackmail will backfire on them. The paper will be totally different. In the direst of circumstances, I would even go so far as to advise the student to flunk that assignment by not submitting a paper. Make up for it next time. Don't give the writer any bullets to shoot you with. Protect yourself by not playing the game.

I will assume that most students these days are already conscious of the need to protect their private information, regardless of whether it be when hiring a direct writer or a writing company. Always use a prepaid card so that only selected information will be taken from when the deal is closed. There is no need to give out the university name, professor name, student ID number, or anything of the sort. All the writer needs is your email address, the email address you use for digital payments, and the deadline for your paper. Anything else should be protected. Don't hire a writer or company that asks for too much information regarding your student details. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Writing Careers / Succeeding as an academic writer? [31]

The people who make it successfully as freelance writers are ultimately those who excelled in writing and research while in college. As a student, the future writer learns the rudiments of research and writing in high school, eventually honing this skill as a college student. There is a reason why our educational system focuses on research and essay writing, it is the best way for a person to learn. One first must love reading, which will then lead to a proficiency in writing, and finally, result in a writing career (for some). An academic writer must have an interest in academic reading, not just reading in general, due to the job requirements. The academic writer will only be successful in this line of work if he has a strong foundation in research and writing during his own time as a student. Just like any other job, the technical skills of being an academic writer is developed on the job, based on client requirements for specific research and opinion papers.

The agreement that I made with the client when I accepted his order was that he would gain the intellectual rights to the paper that he paid me to write. That was clear from the very beginning. I am to develop a fresh paper for the client for his use. Whatever method that use may be. It's none of my business. As long as I got paid for my work, all was good. We wereboth conscious of the fact that he may decide to use the paper as is and submit it under his name. Why should have I minded? It's the unwritten end result of the job. If I did my job well, the client got academic points for it. That's part of the bonus I got for the work I did. So no, I would never get mad at clients who may submit my work as their own.

While a majority of these companies do run the equivalent of slave labor camps, I would beg to differ regarding the ability of their writers to complete the work required by the clients. There are some 3rd world writers who, having studied in the equivalent of international schools in their country, may have the ability to write properly, perhaps not as fluently as ENL writers, but still fluent enough to pass as an educated writer / student. Where and how the students acquire the the writers will never be as important as the ability of the writer hired, that much I will agree with. However, I do not believe that one should shun writing companies simply because there are some disgruntled employees who wish to earn more than the profit sharing scheme of the company allows. The writers came to work for the company conscious of how much they will be paid per page. So don't take it against the company if you do not earn as much as you thought you would. It isn't the company's fault your work order assignment isn't what you expected. Prove your writing abilities first, then discuss an increased CPP with the company. As far as the students are concerned, if the writer can deliver the work, they don't care what the CPP and profit sharing agreement of the company and writer is or was.

There is no hard rule that says a freelance writer should be affiliated with only one company. If that were so, the affiliated freelancers would be out of business. The problem, is that the writers cannot tell when they are applying to companies that are under the umbrella of a mother corporation / company. While it appears that you should not be writing for multiple companies, Smiley is right in saying that you probably applied at an affiliate company instead. The dilemma is actually not on the writer's part, it's on the company's part. They have to come up with a creative reason to reject your application since you already work for them. Since they can't admit that without making the writer question why the company has affiliates, the best they could come up with was that silly ruling. A ruling which was probably made up on the spot by the HR person.

Creating multiple companies that provide the same service is all about cornering the market. It is better to let people think that different companies do not fall under the same ownership so that they will not have any questions about signing up for the service. The more companies under the umbrella, the better chances of snagging more clients. Don't think of this as a scam the company is running. Rather, think of it as a way by which a company can extend its services to more potential clients, under various service offerings, even if they all belong to the same niche market. It's bad for the client, but beneficial to the company.

There are no real reasons that one can point to when it comes to the fining of writers at these Ukrainian companies. It all boils down to how much the "company" wants or needs to earn at the end of the month. Maintaining the site, promoting it, and pretending to pay the writers can really add up for these cheaters. That's why they fine the workers across the board. Nobody is spared. Not even their premium writers. It's all about paying themselves first based upon how much money they earn during the month and what they think would be the proper, not fair, take of the profits would be for them.

If one is to believe the media hype about these plagiarism checkers, one would believe that there is absolutely no way a student can turn in a plagiarized paper. All the cross referencing, database analysis, fact checking, these all make it sound like writing an essay or research paper is down to an exact science. Nothing could be further from the truth, Software tends to blunder when it is confused. Offering false positive results for plagiarism checks when unsure of how to deal with commonly used words and sentence formations. Quoted text, properly cited, can never be considered plagiarism, not even in paraphrased form. That's why I find the use of these plagiarism tools a waste of time and money for the universities that use it.

Once a student pays for a model essay, they are free to use it however they wish. If they plan to turn it in for a grade, then they should make sure it is worthy of being submitted by doing their own Google search and revising the plagiarized sections from there on. Nobody ever encouraged them to submit the paper for a grade. It is clear in all the sites and they are informed by independent writers that they must never expect to get a grade for the paper. Yet, they still do. I do not fault the writers for the methods they use to complete the paper for the client. I do fault the students for not listening when they are told they should never submit the paper for a grade. If they get caught, it isn't the writer's fault. The student was fairly warned. Writers should continue to write model papers as it serves a purpose for students who actually use the paper to write a new one on their own. As for the ones who misuse the paper, whatever happens after is all squarely on their shoulders.

It is normal for an independent writer to ask for a deposit prior to starting the work. Never trust a writer who asks for the complete payment prior to delivering anything. The payments must always be made in tranches so as to assure both sides that one is not trying to cross the other. However, an agreement regarding revisions (should it be required) must be reached even before the deposit is made. Make sure that an agreement that will be beneficial to both sides is reached before any contracts are approved. If you, as the client, sense something is wrong with the deal, then simply don't go through with it.

If a freelance writer is paying his taxes, contributing to a personal version of a 401K, has social security coverage, and pays for health insurance out of his own pocket, then yes, I would say the writer is working at an ethical job. The working landscape has changed tremendously over the early 21st century. The gig economy is now a norm that one can be proud of doing. It is no longer frowned upon nor seen an unethical. These days, freelance writers are seen by most as "living the life" all because we don't have to tie ourselves down to a regular 9-5 job. Other people wish they could write as well as we do so they could join the bandwagon. A freelance writer's job is as ethical as it can be.

Most companies have a refund policy for the students. 24 hour turn around orders come with little to no refund policy because the order is dispatched quickly to an available writer, who then has to work like The Flash to complete the paper. That is why it is difficult to refund the quick papers in most instances. The writer is usually expected to turn in the paper for deliver within 12 hours at the most. If a student knows the order has a quick turn around time, he should definitely check the refund policies before placing an order. Just in case he is struck by student guilt later on.

Writing Careers / If I wanted to be a Scam Writer [8]

If I wanted to be a scam writer, I would:

1. Start a strong social media presence with fake pictures connected to an official looking website ;
2. Make false claims about the number of successful clients I have had;
3. Post testimonials from these clients with a fictitious but working email address to reach teach "satisfied client" by. Then ask my friends to respond to the emails on my behalf;

4. Make sure I get as much personal data from the client as I can for potential sale to the highest bidder. In case the client decides not to complete the transaction and demands a refund for his partial or full payment.

Not that I would do any of these things. I was just thinking the list needs to be updated with more up to date information about how a scam writer might function these days. Data privacy and fake credentials are too easy to create and manipulate these days. Students, be warned.

It could be that the website is on a paid server, but accepts paid advertising to help augment its income. I would not worry so much about seeing advertising on a website. I would be more worried about the content of the website (the blurb) and the conversation that I would be having with the client care representative. Advertising doesn't affect the quality of the work that will be submitted to me, nor does it say that the website cannot be trusted. Even personal blogs accept advertising these days. It doesn't matter. Focus on the possibility that you are talking to someone out to fleece you of your money instead.

Once a writer takes over and creates a new research paper for a student that combines both his research and the student's research, it becomes a totally new paper. It is therefore, considered a model paper. The new paper was not written by the student, but his research was combined into the work of the writer, hence the paper is now a combination of both sets of information, creating a totally new perspective and presentation, it's a new model paper and should not be submitted for a grade. Now, when the student takes the new paper and revises it on his own, it becomes another new paper and thus, can be submitted for a grade.

Have you tried to secure a writer through ES? These writers come highly recommended and are mostly ENL writers, which leaves you in good writing hands. The writers here come with high recommendations from previous clients, as you can see when you visit their profiles, further ensuring that you won't get scammed. Being able to talk to the writers here first hand also helps you decide if the writer is qualified enough for your needs. When you hire a writer from the ES forum, you can be sure that you are not dealing with a person of bad character.

Aside from posting the original paper online and threatening to report the student to his professor, provided he gave you enough information to do so, you can kiss the rest of the payment goodbye. Never turn over the full paper to the client. If need be, you could have submitted the first 2 pages after the upfront payment, then the last page, upon completion. With the rest of the paper being submitted only after you verified the deposit to your account. Yes, there are some students who ask to be blackmailed through their actions. However, it is up to the writer to protect himself during the payment process so such actions need not be taken.

If students want a good essay, I do not agree that they should write it themselves if they know they cannot get it done properly. Instead, they should know to ask for help when they know they are unable to write or get stuck during their writing process. What do they say again? The best way to get lost is to not ask for directions? Exactly. Besides, one cannot generalize about writing help. If say, the mom, dad, or sibling of the student in question can be of writing help to the student, shouldn't he ask for help? It isn't cheating when parents and siblings help the kids with their homework. It is even applauded and encouraged. There are other ways students can seek writing or homework help though. I know of several well positioned students who hand their homework in to their parent's assistants on a daily basis. The poor assistant has no choice but to do the work for "job considerations". In such instances, I would rather the student just pay to get his homework done.

General Talk / Teachers know about this site? [19]

Using writing aids and tutorials outside of the university student assistance center is still totally frowned upon. Teachers and professors mostly prefer that you do the work on your own, regardless of the mistakes you might make. There are writing centers at universities where students who need writing helps can go to have their work reviewed free of charge. Now, while teachers are normally expected to frown upon the writer for hire business, there are some who realize its benefits, for themselves. There are some teachers who actually know about this site, but will not admit it openly. Don't be fooled. Teachers who do come here are most likely looking for writing jobs on the side themselves. The business is basically an open secret after all.

Having such high academic training, why would you want to risk working for a company? The unfair working conditions truly exist and have never improved ever since. Rather than trying to affiliate yourself with a company, just use social networking to set yourself up as a freelance writer instead. Sure you may still get revision requests once in a while, but you won't penalize yourself for those little correction requests or minor reformatting right? A writing company will. A truly gifted writer who enjoys doing research and learning beyond what he has actually been trained to do in school would enjoy being self-employed more than working for someone who is only out to hire free labor whenever possible.

Reliable writing websites are extremely difficult to come by. Which is why it is important that students have a starting point when they are looking for reputable writing companies. I have yet to come across any complaints from students regarding CustomPapers, CustomDisseration, and GraduateWriter so I guess these 3 are the exemption to the norm. Students who come to ES normally head straight for the companies and writers recommended by the site for a reason. Both have been cross-referenced and investigated regarding their reliability and ethics. All of those recommended on this forum have passed the test. So I would have to say that these are the most reliable writing websites that I know of.

General Talk / Using paper as guide [65]

The writing companies all claim to write "original papers" for their clients. Which makes it odd that they also tell the students that they cannot submit the "original papers" for a grade. The company contradicts itself all the time. All because they are conscious of the fact that the students pay for a paper they can actually get class credit for and that the student will not be willing to pay all that cash for a mere "reference". The company knows exactly what the student will do with the paper and I have yet to come across a student who will admit to writing the paper all over again, merely using the paid version as a "reference."

Writing Careers / 4writers don't work for them!!! [54]

The companies use editing as an excuse for unreasonably fining the writers. This is also an admission on their part that the writer was hired merely to fill the quota in the writers pool. Desperate for writers, they will practically hire anybody who can type "Jack and Jill went up the hill", regardless of whether the writer understands what he just wrote. Now, since working for writing companies could also be considered a form of modern slavery, I believe that the deductions they apply are all part of the slave labor. That is why I believe that anybody who works for a writing company in general, is in a similar situation to that of a the plantation slave of old.

If a company cannot even claim to have an establishment date, the potential user should take that to be a red flag. Would you take a stranger's word for it if they asked to borrow your debit card? Exactly. A person without history is questionable. A company without a start date is unreliable. The current set-up of their website also reminds me of a layout I learned when I first began designing websites. It's too simplistic and is designed to make the potential client have fun while looking at the page. I guess they hope that the page is going to be animated enough to make a student seriously consider parting with his cash in exchange for a lousy paper.

Exercise While Working?

I've seen an influx of treadmill workstations and exercise bike desks for home use. I was wondering if anybody has actually tried these products? Does it really allow a person to work and exercise at the same time? Or does it simply divide the attention of the person? I realize that writing jobs tend to create sedentary lifestyles for most people. Which is probably the reason these devices were invented. Although I have a regular gym membership, I was wondering if I could save on the yearly fees and open up more work time for myself by just buying one of these exercise gadgets. Some say that the exercise routine while typing away and / or reading helps open up creative thinking, allows for better breathing, and in the process, results in better brain activity. I think it will just make me tired before I can finish the job. Thoughts anyone?

Writing companies tend to have several satellite companies that use the same pool of writers. The idea is that the company can corner more of the writing market if the clients think they are dealing with a company other than the one that they did not first choose. While this is a common practice in the business, that is not to say that they always have the same writers pool employed. There is a high turn-over rate for these companies since they do not always do the best job when it comes to managing their writers. The writers themselves have no idea which companies are "sister" companies and end up unwittingly applying for work with the same employers over and over again, just under a different cover name. That is why they continue to mismanage the same writers pool and why the company - writer relationships never seem to improve.

As such, they will say one thing and do another. While paying lip-service to the schools, colleges, and universities, they still continue to accept search engine listings for writing companies. A simple search for essay writing companies shows that Chrome is still tuned in to "writing companies" but not through direct advertising. Instead, the search engine points you to "articles" that recommend the "top services" in "article review form". However, Type in "academic writing companies" and you will find that there are still writing companies actively being promoted by the SEO program of the company server. There are over 10 pages of active companies listed. So the answer to the question is no. Never. Google will never remove, or effectively remove, essay companies from their search results.

It is also possible to keep a regular client base throughout the academic season. The writer must provide exemplary work to a first time client, ensuring that the work is so impeccable, the client will not consider hiring anyone else to complete his written work during the full term. Building such a client base means the same student will also be back next semester, requesting your services. That is one of the most effective ways of showing the company that you are capable of not only earning a regular income for yourself, but of raising the quality profile of the company. Do both effectively and the company may even consider placing you in the priority list of writers to be assigned work to during the slow season.

There are no vanishing clients when one works for a writing company. If there is a problem with the payment, it is placed on hold and, if need be, eventually cancelled. So the writer never lost anything as the instruction is not to start work on the paper until the payment has cleared. For independent writers, they should not be turning over completed papers to clients with incomplete payments. It would be a foolish thing to do. Once you turn over the completed paper, the client can use all sorts of excuses not to pay. That is the only situation where a vanishing client could exist and that situation is easily preventable by using common sense on the writer's part.

From the looks of it, they have managed to continue to operate long after leaving their respective companies. Some, never started with a writing company and continue to flourish. Sans any company support, these writers have continued to survive in this niche and seasonal market. Writing courses are there for two purposes. The first is to help you learn how to write. The second, is to help you develop your own writing style. So, is there any sense to writing courses? Actually, there are a number of benefits to enrolling in such a course aside from the 2 previously mentioned. One of the benefits of joining a writing course is that it helps you build your English thinking and speaking skills. It is easier for some to learn the English language, and to become fluent in speaking it by first, writing in the language. By enrolling in a writing course, you will develop your English vocabulary and also sharpen your spoken skills. It is easier to spot your grammar mistakes in written, rather than oral form. In the written form, you can always delete and correct the mistake, or improve the written presentation based upon what you are thinking about writing. There is less embarrassment to be had by having someone correct your written mistakes rather than your spoken errors. If you have the chance to enroll in a writing course, I suggest you go for it. You can only reap benefits from the class that will lead to better self development on your part.
