Upwork definitely has a lot to explain. However, since they pretty much do not care for the client nor the worker, I expect that an explanation from them will come when hell freezes over. As long as they collect their middleman fees, they could care less about how a deal goes. Whether it goes south or is successful is of no concern to them. Luckily, reliable programmers can now be found through various sources. Social media being one of the best bets. I strongly suggest that clients stop using middle man companies and just go directly to the writer. Those who have social media accounts tend to be more reliable, trustworthy, and on the level than those who haunt the online job sites.

The order was never a quick turn around so the client was just being impatient. Since the company had already informed him that the order had been assigned, all he had to do was wait at least 24 hours for a response from the writer. I am sure the company had a PM system in place where he could have reached out to the writer or, he could have asked the company to contact the writer and ask him to update the client. One thing a client should never do is expect the writer to keep in constant touch once the order has been assigned. He needs every minute to work on the paper and making contact with the client takes valuable time away from the work that needs to be completed. So clients just need to sit tight and wait for the writer to get in touch with them. Now, if the deadline passes and they is no communication and no paper submitted, that is another story.

Academia Research has lost more than a majority of its writers. They are now in the hiring process after their writers basically resigned en masse. They have tried to get their reliable writers back by posing as a new writing company and sending unsolicited emails to these writers. The email introduces the new company and asks the writer to take a test if he is interested in working for the new company. They don't realize that the writers recognize the con already and will never go back to working for them. They have a pretty neat network in place wherein they work independently and pass orders off to one another during the season. Working as a truly independent writing group that supports one another when it comes to finding clients and getting jobs. These writers will never go back to AR.

Of course the students would opt for a university professor when it comes to having a paid writer do their paper for them. However, a competent professor is never going to go into the academic writing business. There would be too much on the line for him. Imagine losing your tenure over a few measly bucks? Yeah. Professors tend to value their tenure so they won't help students cheat the educational system for mere peanuts. The only option for the students would be an experienced ENL writer (preferred) who charges a serious amount of money based on the grade goal of the student or a 3rd rate ESL writer (if the student is working with an extremely tight budget.)

Well, it appears that the company has spun off from being a scam of a writing company to now being a scam of a tutoring company. They actually hire tutors now to help students out with their homework and paper writing (if the student wants to write the paper himself) via a consulting position for the student. I am entirely sure how the site managed to rank 6th overall among tutoring companies because frankly, I know of better writing tutor and academic tutor websites but hey, if that's what the ranking is, then so be it. Although, I feel like most of the positive blurbs for the site located on other review forums are written by paid people. The reviews just glow too much for it to be an honest opinion of the site, its services, and its writers. So I would still watch out and take precautions when dealing with this company. After all, you don't want to sign up for a company service just to have your credit card data stolen right?

Of course students have access to free scholarly databases. They can access it anytime they want during the time that they are working on a specific order. All they need to be able to access that database is the online library url for the school of the client, the client's username, and the password to be able to enter the site. One caveat though, if the IP scanner of the university notices an out of state or out of country url, it could lock up the system and trigger an inquiry into the student's activities, which could lead to the discovery that he hired a writing service. No worries though, using a VPN can help delay the search of the actual IP in a manner that will allow the writer to get the information he needs and then log out of the system before he is found out.

Well, I think that this discussion needs to be updated. It is no longer just Team Laptop or Team PC these days. I have writers who complete their work assignments on tablets and some, can complete short turn around time papers on their mobile phones. With Windows software available for use across various devices and platforms, there is no need for a writer to be tied down to one specific type of hardware anymore. Almost all of the gadgets available today will allow writers to complete their tasks. Granted the screen and keyboard size could sometimes be an issues, but the point is that writers are free to work from any available equipment, not just the traditional ones anymore.

That sort of disclaimer is placed by companies in their sites just to cover their behinds. They want to make it appear that they are a legitimate writing company that does not provide any sort of academically written papers for students who intend to submit the paper for a grade. On the contrary, the company knows very well that the student will be submitting the essay or research paper because they definitely charge an amount that says exactly that. The TOS presented here is nothing more than a smokescreen. Any student who pays a premium amount for his paper should feel confident enough to use the paper in the form of submitting it for a grade. In fact, most TOS from reliable companies TRANSFER the rights to the paper, in its entirety, to the client upon its completion.

A reliable company should not offer a 100% refund for any work ordered from them. The only reason a company would offer a refund program is if they know their writers are not of the caliber required by the students. They are the writers meant to fill the writer requirement, just a body to assign the order to, but not really provide the expected service. I would avoid dealing with the companies that offer refunds because, it says a lot about their writers pool. Additionally, a student who believes a writing company will give a full refund has another thing coming. The most they will get out of the company is a 50% refund, and that is if the company is feeling generous. Otherwise, they will find a way to avoid refunding the student, while penalizing the writer for a supposed "refund" to the client.

The OP is an idiot. He probably knew what he wanted to say, and it probably made sense in whatever his native language is. He also has no idea how business works. I strongly doubt that he got anywhere with that posting. I mean, nobody here took him up on his offer (if there was one). I think that he was just trying to size up the competition or, get some dirt on the other writers here. I see his post mostly as a "frenemy" post than anything else. It doesn't offer anything of value to the reader or the writer. Anybody who might have paid attention to him would have just found himself in a heap of trouble for sure.

The problem is that the writers are not always at fault. Most of the time, it is the company, through their QAD that comes up with bogus accusations of plagiarism, lateness, and other penalty warranting errors. The system is rigged against the writer in those companies. Notice that they do not fire the writers regardless of the number of "errors" and "penalties" he produces. The company needs the writer to fill a seat and keep the con running. They know that they can keep assigning work to certain bad writers, which will result in the company meeting their financial quota every month. So no, I do not agree that penalizing writer's is the solution to anything. Nor does it help train the writer. Instead, a company should be working with a writer to help him keep his deadline and the QAD should be offering writer seminars and writing tools that can help the writer improve his craft. Penalties and firing are not always the best option. Manpower training usually works better.

These companies will only try to run the con on ESL students in college. These students are not familiar with the US and UK legal landscape which is why they can easily be intimidated. He did not need to pay them any attention as the best way to call their bluff was to allow them to do their worst. I suspect that his simply ignoring them would have actually resulted in them backing off because they knew they could not do anything academically or legally to the student. It is their word against the student's explanation. Besides, based on the way this student writes, I bet that the essay he submitted was most likely representative of his English writing skills. So the scammer would have a difficult time proving his case. Not that a university would actually take a complaint from a non-student and non-professor seriously. They only look into allegations regarding students when it is made by a professor based on evidence that the professor can produce in relation to the student's work.

It is important to note that the writing companies have become wise the the problems offered by their websites. That is why they have gone on to using blogs, vlogs, twitter, and other social media channels to help cover their tracks. They actually encourage their writers to use the provided social media profiles to help keep their con running on a more modern scale. The websites still exist and they still try to make it look glossy, but the war has moved from the sites to social media, where it is more difficult for the clients to ascertain the possibility that they are dealing with a scam company or writer. When dealing with these types on social media, gut feelings can help the student avoid making a mistake in choosing a writer or service. Somehow, the company or writer will slip up and give themselves away during the negotiation stage. If a client feels uncomfortable, then they should not deal with the company or writer.

Branding is definitely important in this business. That is why the scam companies try to use several brand names for their company to their advantage. By using different names, they hope to be able to create an eventual brand name of trust among the students. The students do not know that the companies have several identities online and, up until recently, I thought that independent writers had only one identity online as well.

I have used my name across several work platforms and social media consistently for the past decade. So, when I came across an independent writer who has 6 different names on various social media accounts and job platforms, I knew he was trouble. Upon further investigation, I found out that his work quality and cost depended upon the identity that the client hired him ask. He had a high - end profile, a mid-range profile, and a low-range profile. All designed to allow him to earn the most out of his clients, depending upon their actual student abilities.

I consider that independent writer to be a scumbag and I have spent a lot of time blowing his cover wherever I find him. That is why I think student's should still be careful of the writer they hire, regardless of his name brand. You never really know...

If one were to think about it, there really isn't a difference between a model paper and an original paper. A model paper gives the student an idea as to how to best approach the development of their essay or research paper. The writer has to do the sourcing of materials and writing of the content anyway, which becomes original in the process. So the "model" paper can actually be submitted for a grade if the client so wishes. I have yet to come across a client who will ask me or my writers to write a model paper for them to work over after they receive it. They simply don't have the time to do that. They pay for the paper, they assume it is original, they will submit it for a grade. If they can't then all that TOS reference to intellectual transfer or rights is plain hogwash.

While I would advise the students to hire the writers directly to avoid getting scammed, if I had to cast a vote for one of the 3 sites, I would definitely vote for Custompapers.com. I do not have a vested interest in this recommendation. It is simply that I know from experience and word of mouth that the other 2 sites are definitely problematic when it comes to the quality of the work submitted. There is also a problem with writer communication, most likely because they use ESL writers who aren't exactly TOEFL or IELTS passers. At least Custompapers always uses ENL writers and writer communication has never been a problem for their clients.

The problem is that with Paypal no longer allowing students to deal with writing companies, it has become a bit more difficult for the students to pay for their papers. Personally, I just ask the student to do a direct deposit to my bank account, it works the same way. I get as little private information from the student as possible. The student also just gets enough information from me to make the transaction go through on my banks end. What I would like to understand is why there seems to be an obsession with the personal data of students. I mean, if the writer wants to make trouble for the student, he can do so in several ways, not just through the information that the client provides during payment. The student probably doesn't realize it but, there is a bigger problem posed by asking the writer to write a cover page and create a running header for his paper. That, I would worry about. Payment data, not so much.

The OP must have been living under a rock for ages. I hope he finally crawled out of it to realize that the independent writer market has actually managed to outshine the academic writing companies. The independent writers have more or less broken free of the middleman and actually work for themselves already. They actually use sites like ES to source their clients and build a client base. So it isn't a crazy dream anymore. It is an actual reality that both independent writers and clients are now benefiting from. As to whether or not the independent market will grow enough to kill the writing companies, that is yet to be seen.

When you sign up at a company, they will only require an email address and a password to create the account. Once you decide you want to place an order with the company, then you will need to divulge your full name and phone number for obvious reasons. If the company has to contact you with regards to any payment problems, writer inquiries, or similar situations, it will be better if you can be reached by phone rather than email. It is all about the immediacy of the work requirement, nothing more. Don't read too much into it. These are all just regular information required to complete the work process. Don't jump to conclusions. Nothing sinister going on. Just required data collection. Of course it becomes part of the company data but then, whose information isn't stored somewhere for one reason or another these days?

I heard through the grapevine that AR has spun off a new writing company arm. They have been contacting their previously connected writers and asking them to take hiring tests. The unsuspecting writers take the test, get hired, and find themselves back in the AR server. The reactions range from surprised, irritated, angry, and amused. Once the writers see that its the old dog trying to use new tricks, they simply let the account get deactivated. They've all learned their lessons the hard way. They refuse to go back to the slave driving company that is AR. So I guess the company is still running low on qualified writers these days.

Writing Careers / academia-research reward points [16]

Based on insider information, it appears that the rewards points are more useful for the writers who have not yet gotten a promotion at AR. The rewards are meant to help them get more access to higher priced orders. The star system is what they use to promote the writers all the way up to first class. Once a writer reaches the ultimate status, which is first class, then the rewards system is no longer useful to them. There are no more promotions to be had and the writer already has complete access to all orders, regardless of rate or paper type. So yeah, the rewards points are useful, but only up till the premium writer position. After that, it won't matter anymore.

"Featured" just means that the user is paying for his name to be advertised on the forum. Does that mean that the forum actually did a background check on the "featured" writers to make sure they aren't running scams? Nobody can be sure of what exactly is entailed in the "featured" tag, which serves a purpose similar to the blue check mark / verified tag on social media. Should a writer with that next to his username be trusted? Well, not considering the paid advertising amount, then yes, it does raise the "trust" factor more than a notch. However, it never hurts to err on the side of caution. Do your own investigation before hiring a writer. Recommendations should work best and offer a higher sense of trust than a mere "featured" tag next to a username.

General Talk / I'm loving this site. [10]

Yep. The people at this forum can certainly provide endless entertainment. It is entertaining to watch how they chase after clients while claiming to have a regular client base so large, they have to pass off work to others because they simply can't do it all. Although, I bet they wish they were octopuses with multiple heads so they could be as money grabbing as they could, taking all the possible work orders that appear at this forum. Proving that their client base and their "expertise" are not as spectacular as they claim it to be. They can write, but just like the clients of everyone else here, theirs are also few and far between. Specially with money tight right now because of this inconvenient Covid - 19 thing.

When I am hired directly, outside of my company, I give the client one week to complete the payments. I do not even begin working on the paper unless the payment has cleared in my account. I have found that working on a paper per section, as the payments come in, or not do not make for a high quality paper. The best quality paper is the one that is written continuously because the writer is focused on the development of the content. When the writer completes the paper in batches, the fluidity and strength of discussion fluctuates as the writer stopped writing at a certain point. Doing so wrecks the "zone" that writers have to find themselves in to complete the perfect paper. Once the writer is out of the "zone", everything else disappears along with the fluid thought and writing process.

Academia Research has a screwed up system when it comes to assigning orders. Either they do not have a good software running on their server with regards to writer assignments or, Their HR staff is totally incompetent. The situation that this writer found himself in, getting an email confirming an order assignment, only to not find it in his work list, is a common occurrence at their place of work. Contacting the HR staff through chat normally results in an explanation regarding the "mix-up". The letter the OP received was a standard template. They make those mistakes so often, they needed an automated email response to send out already. These people don't know how to run a business which is why I am amazed that they somehow manage to stay afloat and, seem to be very popular among the students.

Finding the right writer isn't difficult when you do not hire a writing company. It's all about the personalized service that direct hire writers bring to the table. Plagiarism checker programs, specially the online kind, are beginning to share their paper databases. So, at this point, it is likely that the OP's friend's essay just might turn up during a Grammarly check. Personally, I would have been pleased to know that my original paper did not show up on a database. However, that leads me to wonder, why was the student checking for an old paper? Was he reselling it? Or was he writing a new paper for sale to someone based on his old work? So many questions that makes me wonder more about the intentions of the student rather than the integrity of grammarly as a plagiarism checker tool.

MS Word as bundled into Windows 10 offers a pretty decent spell, grammar, and thesaurus checking system. It makes suggestions regarding sentence presentation improvement as well as possible word choices to help the clarity of a presentation. The built in thesaurus also assists students who wish to avoid redundancy in their presentations. While nothing will beat a human editor, an ESL student will be tremendously helped by the system. It will also help them learn how to write better in the English language as it offers choices for various types of English (UK and the USA to name a few). If a student really wants to properly edit his work though, he should consider a human editor or, going to the university writing center to ask for editing assistance or writing tutorials.

Forget about student integrity. It is all about making sure the class requirements are met. Not only that, the student needs to make sure that the class requirements are met, with a passing grade. Students these days do not like to take risks when it comes to their grades. That is why they opt to pay a professional to complete the written work for them. It isn't because they are lazy or they are busy, it is just that they want to make sure they get the best possible chance at a high grade. Now, since the writers, through their TOS, turn over the rights to the paper to the student once the paper is paid for, the paper becomes the student's original work. So why shouldn't they be able to submit the paper for a grade? If that is the way that a student can assure himself of a passing grade, then who are we to pass judgement?

Either the student was looking to sell the paper 2 years later or, he had previously failed the prerequisite class and is now faced with the need to finally retake the class. If that is the case, the reason why he would want to reuse the same paper, with some alterations becomes evident. Personally, I would not advice any student to reuse an old paper. It is always best to use a fresh paper in any given scenario. Most specially when the possibility of plagiarism, self-inflicted or otherwise, exists. Besides, in the scenario of having to repeat the class, why would a student want to use the same paper that did not help him pass the class previously? That doesn't make any sense.

The best online research materials are the ones that the students themselves provide to the writer. It is only logical that they provide as much reference materials as they can since their professors have required reading for the lessons. As such, the student is constrained to use the class references. Professors also warn the students beforehand about websites, news sources, and other online references that are unacceptable in terms of verified information. Ask the student to provide the materials to avoid confusion and to ensure the academic integrity of the paper, as far as the professor is concerned. If you are asked to write a paper using your own sources, then make sure to have the student approve the materials and websites you have decided to use first. The last thing a writer wants to do is revise a paper due to a problematic information source.

While my company and my writers do not offer papers for resale, I could see why some writers and companies would engage in the practice. However, the practice should only take effect within 4 years of writing the paper. That way the student will have already graduated and the potential for the professor to double check the paper would have been minimized. A student should not be checking for the resale of a paper so early in the game. No writer or company will resell the paper so soon after submitting it to the student. For all intents and purposes, the intellectual property for the paper still lies with the student. That is why the student should make sure to check the TOS for a potential expiration date on the rights to the paper. Some companies include a reference to the rights reverting to the company for the resale of the paper sometimes. If a student is not sure about the rights to the content of the paper, then, it will never hurt to ask the company and keep documentation regarding that conversation.

Academia - Research is actually still running the same scam using a new company name. They also deactivated a majority of their senior writers accounts because they were starting to protest the unfair fines of the company. Yes, I am talking about their habit of letting the writer earn a windfall and then having them pay it back with interest. Almost as if they were in the business of being loan sharks instead of a writing company. The writers, before leaving (hence the deactivated accounts), would get as many orders as they could, then let the deadline lapse. They would then refuse to take calls from the company and refused to respond to messages as well. It was the only way that the writers could see to "get even" for the unfair treatment. By doing what they did, the company was forced to refund money to the clients. All the writers wanted to do was hurt their bottom line. Something that I believe they successfully did.

Anonymity and confidentiality are words that are hard to apply in this business. When you deal with companies that use tracking services and plant cookies into your browser when you click on their site, you can't really expect their TOS and other empty promises to mean something. They are tracking you whether you know it or not. They will use the anonymous or non-identifiable information they got from you, with or without your permission. It's all about data collection, which will eventually be for sale to the highest bidder. No, your anonymity and confidentiality are not guaranteed when you deal with an essay writing service. However, dealing directly with a writer, who does not accept your work order through forms on a website is a different deal altogether. If you deal with a writer who still uses old school emails to exchange information with you, or even one of the VoIP programs out there, there is a good chance he will be out to protect your data. Any other form of order confirmation will be risky. Don't expect the writer to protect your information. Do what you can to protect your information. It's the safest thing for you to do.

A preferred writer is someone who has created rapport with a particular client. A writer could be preferred because of a similarity in writing style with the student, or the ability of the writer to deliver the preferred grade of the student. It is the preferred grade expectation that I find increases the value of a writer in both the eyes of the student and the company owner. When a writer proves to be popular among the students for one reason or another, the company will place a particular value on that writer's time and skills. It is reflected in the cost per page of that writer. However, what the client doesn't know is that the writer doesn't actually get paid more when he becomes a preferred writer. The rate of his increase per page is so minimal that most would still consider it slave labor wages. Only the company makes money out of the preferred writer status. The writer himself doesn't get much benefit from the status.

Due to the Covid 19 lock down, it would appear that there is actually an overflow of good writers when compared to customer demand. The one down side of the ECQ on a global scale is that students are now locked at home, with nothing to do after attending their video classes. So some of them end up actually doing the work themselves, for lack of something else to do, instead of hiring writers who can do the job for them. However, I have still seen a steady flow of orders that require good writers to work on them. Yes, even during a lock down, there will be some students who would rather rest and play video games than do their homework. That means, that as a business owner, I need to make sure that I have a good writing staff on hand, regardless of the client demand at the time. You never know when the market might suddenly pick up again.

Students who come to this site asking for a referral to a reliable writing company are totally missing the point. Dealing with a writing company is problematic, fraudulent, and a traumatic experience. If you come to this site, then you should be looking for an independent writer to work with. The non-company attached writers are the most reliable, on the level, and non-traumatic writing experience that a student can have. They have direct access to the writer at all times, can negotiate a truly affordable cost for the paper, and expect to receive a high standard paper on time, each time. Whenever possible, go direct to the source, avoid the middleman. You pay less but get more writing quality for your money.

It got so bad for them that they actually took down their own writer's forum because the writers pool was so unhappy with the system that the new writers were throwing in the towel even before they could try to earn their first buck. One of the writers in my company is still waiting on the more than $3000 they owe him for his copy-writing work. That's what this company is good at. Just like everything else in this world, a company has only one shot at making a good first impression on the potential client. That first impression normally comes in the form of the company website. The job of the website is not only to advertise the company and its services, it is also tasked with creating the impression that the writers working for the company are reliable, competent, and with proper writing abilities. Since these companies hire their in-house writers to complete the copy for the site, you would think that the company would make sure that the web copy would be an accurate representation of their essay writers abilities. They would want the best work of their writers to be reflected on their site. It appears though that the companies prefer the opposite. They are more focused on the gloss of their site, instead of the quality of the content. Maybe it is because of the era of Instagram that the company owners would rather sell gloss instead of the ability of their writers. Whatever the reason, they have no excuse to use bad web copy on their sites. If you ask me, it just reflects bad business practices.

As far as I am concerned, the most honest way to get a job in this field is to work with the people who already have an established client base. If you are lucky enough to get on the good side of the established independent writers here, they can actually help you kick-start your independent writing career by sending their client overflow your way. That was how I got my start as a writer after I got out of college and now, I own my writing firm and I am able to help employ other freelancers by sending them my excess client load. Eventually, they spin off with their own permanent client base, all of whom came from my recommendations.
