So has anything changed in the recent year about the paper business? Is the statement to stay away from <Ukrainian|Pakistani|Russian|Chinese|Indian|Kenyan|?> companies still valid? Or they improved their operations?

I'm in the IT field and see most of the foreign based services (with a few exceptions) dominate Google search. Is it because of their improved services or because search engine games. I'm asking because the new semester has already started and a professional opinion is appreciated to make an educated decision :p

Are you serious? You have some good points, but it's not possible to tell who they hire or if they plagiarize unless you order from them?

they implemented a program called Penguin-II that now penalizes some of the very practices upon which many essay companies used to rely very heavily to boost their rankings

Yes, good point and you are correct. Many of them still rank well despite the algo change. That's why I've been wondering if it had something to do with their (better?) service. Obviously Google cannot know if their services improved, but maybe there is some human factor involved.

check the work for both quality and plagiarism.

That's another good advice (and advice to other students - never order very urgent projects since 50% of them tend to be plagiarized ;P. By the way, here is a good link to create animated essay service videos in case someone's interested: professorjosh.com/?p=4322.

I considered using them

I personally skip companies that opt out of being discussed in public. If something goes wrong you have no recourse.

it's easier for companies to get to the top of search engines than for little guys producing content

I remember Google banned (still bans?) paper mill websites, so paid advertising in Google is not a great option.

micro-level genuine backlinking than heavily budgeted buying, selling, and exchanging of "backlinks".

or.. follow the steps of 'heaven for hackers' and try to hack legitimate websites (.edu or even .gov). They do that to try to make their sites on top and (unfortunately) some of them are successful.

Essay Services / Trusted essay writing services? [35]

I don't know if they are legitimate, but I can surely tell the same company owns at least a dozen of similar websites.

Essay Services / Unemployedprofessors.com review [49]

It's not cool when a writing service mocks the education system (why do they think students who order essay services do it because they are lazy or want to party?) and the real professors. I doubt a single writer from this site is in fact a professor - they created a marketing trick which is as genuine as self-served testimonials.

[Moved from]:

Copyright to academic papers

I'm a little confused about copyright issues related to academic papers. Some (most?) of the academic writing services explicitly state in their Terms that the copyright to the model paper belongs to the company and that they may resell the paper after a few months to other students.

First question - would I be liable for copyright violation if I use the model paper (that was custom-written for me) and then the company finds out I used their copyrighted work? And what if I used the paper before the company resells it (would the copyright violation still apply)?

Second question - some freelance writers that don't have a website don't have any Terms. Does it mean I don't have to worry about copyright issues if I order from them? Of course I want to be legal and use the papers as model research only.

Here is a ready script you can copy-paste into your .htaccess file. It will deny access to all backlinks posted on .cn, .ru, and .info domains (80-90% of backlinks from these domains are spam or negative SEO attack links). The nice thing about it is that it will not block links from Google search engine (that way anyone using Google search on .cn, .ru, and .info domains will be able to access your site without problems). I use this script on one of the UK-based websites I manage that has been affected by the nSEO attack and it works pretty well:

# Block backlinks from Chinese, Russian, and .info domains (but allow Google on all these domains)

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(.*\.)?(google)\.(cn|ru|info)(/.*)?$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http(s)?://(.*)?\.(cn|ru|info)(/.*)?$ [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [F]

Google still sees the backlinks because they are not hosted on your domain.

Right Google sees the link but it also follows it to a destination page. When the destination page's header says: 403-access denied then this link is not counted (why would it be?). Similar way - you can post a link to a non existing page and Google will not count it as a link because the destination page's header says: 404-not found.

Forgot to mention - engaging in negative SEO is like shooting yourself in the foot. Domains on the disavow list will be eliminated (that is - permanently banned from top 1-50 search results and not transferring Pagerank juice, even on dofollow links) when there are more than X confirmed penalties triggered by a negative SEO attack and then subsequently revoked by a manual action. The Russians, Ukrainians, and Chinese attackers will soon be doomed and their pathetic actions will not be even worth the fees they waste on their spam domains.

I've also heard (private talk with a guy who knows top SEO guys in a large UK corporation) that domains that got caught doing negative SEO will have Adsense accounts that happen to be hosted on the same domains manually reviewed (and - hopefully - suspended too). It's obvious Google doesn't want to finance the attackers who sabotage Google's work and create bad press at the same time.

Gotta love to see the mugs of the losers who receive an Adsense account Disabled notice :haha:

More advice to victims of negative SEO attack. When you notice Adsense ads on sites that link to you without your consent, click on the small arrow near the ad and report it. Then describe whats wrong with the ad:

1. Wrong placement (ad too close to content).

2. Encouraging clicks - graphics near ads etc.

3. Ads on adult content pages.

4. Ads on pages with little original content.

5. Plagiarized content - that's the most common thing among garbage websites. Take some words in quotation marks and do Google search. When you find same article/content posted on other domains, copy-paste the link in your report. Google doesn't want ads on stolen content.

I personally know it works.

If you work as a freelance writer or if you own a writing service company - do you know how many % of your clients are:

- Word of mouth
- Organic search (not paid)
- Paid advertising

How many of those are returning clients? My experience tells me that word of mouth clients are the most valuable. What's your experience?

Essay Services / experience with essaywriter.org [11]

Do you guys know more info about essaywriter.org and customwritings.com? They are linked to a SEO attack of one of the UK writing services. I'm trying to gather more info about them and send a report to Google. Do these belong to the same parent company?

OK folks - the post #4 by WRT confirms my findings. The Ukrainian owners of essay services are waging a war against UK-based writing services (they could go against US services too). Reporting them to Google and blocking their domains is the only option to win the battle. They have recently created new spam websites ending with the word <here>, for example customessayhere.com, getessaywritinghere.com, researchpaperwritinghere.com and similar. They do it to defraud Google and Bing search engine results. I'm still a little confused who owns which sites but my research clearly shows the attacks starting in Ukraine.

After having spent more than a week researching the Ukrainian writing services that show their true colors by not only defrauding their clients, but also negative-SEO attacking other research sites (UK and possibly US-based too) I noticed they started to evolve. From the so called "essay writing services" they move to the "homework help" niche.

The design of these sites and unlocked WHOIS info leaves no doubt that the deceptive operations are managed by the same people. Students should proceed with caution because by giving them their billing information and online payment details they risk being defrauded or blackmailed. Students should know that Ukraine is not legally bound by any serious treaty present in civilized countries, so even if a victim has a valid legal claim they are unlikely to find a lawyer who would represent them in a court of law.

It's funny to watch how some of the 'black hat SEOs' post garbage links to attacked sites in a 'methodical' way. They THINK the links won't be found if they post them only for a couple of days or if they try to hide them. Not to worry, your networks of garbage domains are methodically listed one by one in a .txt file and sent directly to Mr. Matt Cutts every day for bitc*-slapping

Here are examples of negative SEO attack that may affect... this site. The Russians/Ukrainians (they could be paid by 3rd parties) link to this site from their spam websites. Note how they use some common keywords (like 'this', 'download', 'here', 'click') hoping the links won't be found ;). At the same time they know what's coming and some of them have already listed their garbage domains for sale  Hint to them - your domains are already bi*ch-slapped by Google so they are worthless until they expire and you - if lucky - register them again ;).

I doubt EssayScam can be easily affected because: 1) the owners must be aware of the attack and - if they smart - are proactive, 2) the site is established enough not to be easily affected. I still will be watching backlinks related to this site (and other sites related to online writing services) because the attackers share the same domains. My list already has almost 8,000 domains and this info is being shared with Google as we speak ;).

Example 1:

Example negative SEO attack link.

Example 2:

hidden link

After having spent over a month on disavowing crappy links and writing comments that my client's website is not responsible for them (because they are not), I hope soon, very soon Google and Bing will come up with the following press release:

-----------------------------------

Today we have finished a serious cleanup job on Ukrainian, Russian, and Chinese network of websites that engaged in negative SEO attacks. We're calling it - the network of 450K domains owned by the "black hat SEOs" are now worthless.

However, we would like to give a benefit of doubt to the affected webmasters. If your domain is on the WORTHLESS DOMAINS list and you have ever published a dofollow link to another website in order to negatively affect its rankings, here are the steps you must follow to uncr@p your domains:

1. Login to your Webmaster Tools account and click on the "Uncr@p My Worthless Domains" link.

2. For each domain, compose an original, 1,200-word essay written in flawless English, explaining why you have thought it was a good idea to waste time and resources of other webmasters, businesses, and our employees. If you have received a monetary compensation for your unethical actions, explain in detail why this money should be donated for better causes.

3. Write a 900-word letter to your future employer describing how your time could have been spent better on doing good deeds or more productive things.

4. Write and email a 300-word apology letter to all the people who have been negatively affected by your actions. Don't forget to create a spreadsheet and list the dates, email addresses, and screenshots of the emails sent.

5. Wait until you receive a reply from the affected people. If your letter has been ignored or if a reply has a "F!*K YOU!" theme, continue your efforts until you are successful and forgiven.

We will reconsider uncr@ping your worthless domains within 365-980 days from submitting the form. Please note that only forgiven webmasters may be given a second chance.

[x] I, [ ], once again apologize to everyone impacted by my stupid actions. I agree not to sabotage other websites in the future.

SUBMIT

Here is an example of a page where the negative SEO scammers publish spam links to their own websites (they may rotate links between their own websites and their competition websites they target):

wowwebnow .com/services.php

<a href="http:/ writing beee .com/" target="_blank">writing bee</a> . <a href="http:/ essays writing online .co.uk/" target="_blank">essay writing</a> . <a href="http:/ essay service writing .com/" target="_blank"> essay writing service reviews </a> . <a href="http:/ master papers reviews .com/" target="_blank">http:/ masterpapers .com/</a> . <a href="http:/ get essay writing service .co.uk/" target="_blank">essay writer </a>

They have also started linking to their Facebook / Twitter pages (not to their main pages) hoping to get away with severe penalties for their fraudulent SEO actions against their competition. They think that by not linking directly to their parent websites nobody will notice who they are and what they do.

Thanks - looking into it and reporting to Google.

Looks to be redirect by meta refresh. paper-writing.php was maliciously uploaded to the server (I don't know how) and it redirect referrers like 'paper_id' / 'essay_id' to the attacker's own websites. They also use some kind of cloaking to insert random keywords (the content can be see on Google cache pages).

This article gives more detail - it includes examples from hccs.edu - aw-snap.info/articles/spam-hacks.php

I recall I had contacted hccs.edu about it a couple of weeks ago, but received no reply. Do they care? One possibility is that their own webmaster is doing a dirty job. I would not be surprised after having seen so many 'legit' sites that had malicious links published without the owners knowledge or consent.

using javascript links will protect them

Google has it covered. It is yet another signal of search engine manipulation.
Here are more examples of their breaking-the-rules (reverse SEO) activities:

ecoimobil.md/rus/incalzire
tischlermeisterschule.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=articl e&id=10&Itemid=12
turnkey37.com/Huth-Accu-sizer-3-1986.htm

I can confirm on three websites I've been working on that disavowing of bad backlinks / domains (either proactively or to recover from the unnatural links penalty) works. Thanks Google and Bing : ). I'll be uploading more worthless domains that may still try to attack other sites as they come.

But lately they've been using my username (!) to make edits.

I'm sorry for students who freely give out their personal and financial information to Europe-based websites not actually located in the European Union zone. Ukraine is the Nigeria of Europe as far as illegal activities are concerned.

Cos I can not find some review for these two website:

It means these are either new or unpopular. I'm not fond of new sites because they are usually affiliates and not real companies. If a company has many affiliates it means they try to scam or confuse their clients because they cannot maintain good quality / reputation in the long term. They assume in advance they have to develop 100 different websites in order to attract enough steady clients. If they only had 1 website, complaints from their clients would derail its reputation quickly. Just like email spammers - they use hundreds or thousands of different IPs to deliver spam; once one block of IPs is banned, they move to another block. They don't care about quality but quantity.

As someone had suggested here, you can find non-foreign-based writing services on essaydirectory.com. Off top of my head, you should have luck with custompapers, essaytown, papermasters, ukessays, graduatewriter (all .com).

If you study in the UK, ask for a UK-based or UK-educated writer. Write specifically in the instructions that you need a UK writer. I believe all the larger companies have US/UK/Australia-based writers so you need to request one from the country you prefer.

Another option - try to find a UK-based or educated freelance writer, but note that location (and writer's name) can be easily faked. If someone with a gmail address contacts you and claims he's from the UK, demand a proof (the best one would be a picture of a passport taken on a live web camera while you're chatting with them : ).

I used some essay services a couple of years ago; now I only need to write computer code, not essays ;).

are NOT "eligible for PayPal seller protection".

... unless there's a proof (a screen-shot of order/conversation with client may be enough in some cases) the purchase was authorized and that the customer is trying to swindle the merchant (and Paypal).

Where do these journalists find those "essay writers" who think students use example research services for no other reason than to have fun?

It could be propaganda. They want to achieve a certain goal (discourage students from using model paper services) so they create a false person ("essay writer") and match the whole story to their needs. Another possibility is that this essay writer actually exists, but they specifically chose him/her out of 10 other writers that would contradict the point of their story.

By now I'm a little tired of filling out the spam report forms on Google. But here is what I found I would not expect to find - check out this search term: best essay review: https://www.google.com/search?q=best+essay+review.

On the very first result - BOTH in the organic search AND in Google News, there is this page: palebluenews.co.uk/23201403/best-essay-writing-service-review-983 .html that is redirecting to a Ukrainian essay service. Maybe when more people submit the fraudulent SEO technique, Google will do something about that. For now it looks that the news website may be working directly with the spammers (unless their site was hacked).
