Writing companies actually offer direct access to the writers on their websites via the private messaging systems. These communications boards are where the clients can post their messages, which pass through a manned screening system so that any possibility of direct contact between a client and writer are eliminated (posted email address, cell number, or social media contacts) on both ends. While there is a wait time for the client to hear back from the writer, there is at least a semblance of direct contact. The customer service is usually just around to ring up the writer in case the message is urgent and the writer is blissfully asleep on the other side of the world, not knowing that they have a screaming client on the other side of the horizon. While it is not the best way of communicating directly with the writer. It is the best that the companies can come up with in order to give a semblance of "free communication" between the two parties.

I would be pissed to the high heavens regardless of the scenario. Either ways, I would feel duped and helpless, which would translate into my going into Incredible Hulk mode without anything to destroy.

If I don't receive the essay at all, that means I end up with a failing grade because I won't have time to pull a paper together on my own before the deadline. If I receive an irrelevant paper, I would still fail my class because I still won't have the time to string together enough information to put together whatever essay I can for submission to the professor. It's a lose-lose situation whichever one I pick. So I won't choose either if that is at all possible.

Although, if I don't receive the paper, there is a chance that the writing company can still get a writer for me to cobble enough information to help me at least get through the requirement of passing the paper. So, if I think really hard, about it, maybe receiving an irrelevant essay on time would make me angrier.

If the client gave the correct instructions from the onset and communications between the writer and client are constant as the paper progresses, rewrites could actually be non-existent for the most proficient writers such as myself. The few times that I actually had to do a rewrite were all based on client error. Wrong instructions, wrong sources, additional information, professor observations, these are all causes for rewrites that are never writer caused. Let me clarify, these are rewrites that are requested of writers of the non-ESL variety. Those writers who can barely string a coherent sentence together then expect to get paid for their work are the ones who practically live on rewrites and revisions because of errors in the paper that they caused themselves. It is because of the high level of ENL writers in the field that the scam companies have to make up complaints in order to deduct payments from perfect essays and research papers. In my case, I think I only did a rewrite about 5 times for the duration of my academic writing career. All at the behest of the client who steered me down the wrong path to begin with.

So, I met with my friends from the biz for a cuppa joe the other day and we got into a discussion about whether or not using a PC or laptop was more beneficial to the independent writers. Those on the side of the PC mentioned the lower cost of purchasing the item, the ability to upgrade the PC hardware without breaking the bank, its ability to perform tasks that could done only on a limited scale on a laptop, and the longer lasting system overall when compared to a laptop.

Being a laptop person myself, I reasoned out that the laptop allowed me to work without being tied down to one spot in my house. Additionally, any power interruptions were best addressed by the laptop since I could create a hotspot for it with my mobile phone. If push came to shove, I always had my trusty pocket wifi to fall back on. In other words, I argued that laptops don't allow for work down time specially during a hot season. As for the task performance, there was always a work around available for those sorts of things. In terms of hardware, my laptops always worked until they reached their end of life cycle of about 6 years. During which time I never hard a desire nor need to upgrade the system. If I knew my laptop could not handle an order, I simply refused to accept it. My laptop, in its many incarnations, never failed me when I was still an academic writer.

What I'd like to know is, what do you guys think? Are you Team Laptop or Team PC?

Based on my experience, it could take up to a year for the company to re-sell the paper because of certain safeguards they put into place against the possibility of the paper turning up as "plagiarized". To play safe, after six months to one year, they ask the original writer to revise the whole paper without having to pay the writer anything extra. It is just part of the "revision" process they say. What they don't tell the writers is that the students who originally ordered the paper earn from the "revised paper" because of the referral system in place. 6 months is the equivalent of once college semester. Therefore, it becomes a bit safer to revise and resell the paper in the same university. If the professor is wise, he will keep a file of his old student's papers and he will have software on hand that compares word syntax. That is usually how the plagiarism is caught. The consequences in this instance? The same as any other. Expulsion from the university.

This sounds like the plot of Hollywood movie. Whoever put you up to writing this rubbish obviously had no real prophetic powers. If you did this on your own, you obviously don't have the power to predict the future because, guess what? The academic outsourcing companies, both scammers and legitimate ones, are still going strong in the era of social media. In fact, they have spun off into a more social media friendly format where the broker still manages to exist and continues to con both writers and clients. This is all while the independent writers still continue to proliferate. This market, like all others, is a free enterprise and as such, will continue to evolve and co-exist. Scammers will find a way to exist even as the legitimate companies do their best to steer clients away from them. Independent writers will learn about more and more technologically helpful ways to promote their business so that they can finally be rid of having to accept referrals from their previous companies, for which they lose some income on. Just like a person dealing with the stock market, the broker is here to stay. The writers and clients just have to learn to live with it.

This transaction reeks of data mining and fraud. Not even the most scam riddled company asks for proof of identity because the payment system that is set up through online payment channels does not require it. This is a company that you should not deal with. You must never surrender any identifying information with your order. Specially when it comes to the payment. With the increase in blackmailing of students these days, only a fool would willingly surrender such information in exchange for a written model paper. The company doesn't need proof of who you are. You are not a writer for them who might have sold his ID to someone else and now that new account owner is using the profile. There is absolutely no reason to submit any personally identifying information to them.

The fact that they cannot prove who they are says even more about what they are actually trying to do in this business. They are in it to scam students. No quality work may be expected to come out of such a company because they probably don't even have a writers pool to begin with. Run, do not walk, to the nearest exit. Avoid that company like the plague.

In this instance, the writer may be more than willing to start their own company in order to bust out on their own but it is the logistics of running the website and finding clients that more than likely deters them from trying it out. While there are some successful independent writers here with their own simple websites, whose simple marketing ploys and advertisements work for them, the other writers may not be that lucky. Most of the others have other chores and responsibilities in life that will prevent them from being an all in one academic outsourcing machine. Not everyone can be the writer, researcher, marketer, accountant, and client relations officer all rolled into one. Real life and other responsibilities tend to get in the way of that. Which is why those who don't have the time to take on all those responsibilities don't even try. There simply isn't enough time during the day for some independent writers. While they do accept some freelance writing on the side, most of these writers still prefer to work with a company in order to avoid the hassles of having to do all the management work themselves. Whether it pays off or not for the writer is another discussion.

One of the reasons that fraud is to rampant at AR is that the company cannot seem to stay in the hands of one owner long enough for the policies to set in or for the managers to screw their heads on straight.

I worked for them for 7 years and during that time, they changed management at least 5 times, sometimes more often as their policies regarding fines, penalties, and writer conduct vary even during the mid-year. Mismanagement is one of the reasons that AR ends up committing fraud upon their writers. The new owners keep trying to get their money back sooner rather than later and they take it out on the writers.

The fastest way for them to get their ROI is to simply not pay the writers. Hence the tendency to over-do it on the penalties and other fines, whether applicable or not. They refuse to listen to reason because they barely understand what the writers are saying when in the chatroom with them and, their orders are clear. Just pay the writers as little as possible. They know their monthly budget for writer payments and they work within that budget.

They stretch it by penalizing hard working people. That's why I eventually left. I kept hoping things would change but it never did. It just kept getting worse over time.

Complaining StudentsYou do make a point about the students being the criminals in this instance but, that is really a gray area. I mean, wouldn't you want to pay for help if that is what it took to pass your class? The only crime here, as far as I can see, is that the students honestly want to make the grade but can't figure out how to do it alone. So they ask for help. Their need for constant help produced a new, albeit underground, business type, the academic writers and the companies that hire them. They are here for a purpose, to help the students. While not writing their own papers may be an academic violation, it isn't really a crime in the sense of the word as you implied it to mean. Rather, the students are merely clients who require assistance and they are willing to pay for it. I would rather help a student who needs it and get paid for it rather than be bullied into helping someone with their paper just so my lunch money won't get stolen. There is a bigger crime wave going on in the schools that pales in comparison to the student's use of independent academic writers.

I always want to think of independent academic writers and those affiliated with academic outsourcing companies as people in the profession of offering academic assistance. It is not to say that the writers are helping them cheat the system. Rather, the students try to find a writer because they know they need the extra help in accomplishing their academic tasks. Just like anyone who hires a service, they have the right to complain if they are not satisfied with the work received. Whatever their intention for ordering the paper, it doesn't erase the fact that they hired an independent writer or the paper service in good faith. They put their trust in the person or company and the least the person or company can do is repay the trust with quality work. Sure the independent writers may be remiss in reminding the student that they should not turn in the paper for a grade. The fact is the writer promised to deliver an original and plagiarism free paper to the student which, for all intents and purposes, should be submittable for a grade. So yeah, they should reserve the right to complain and do it loudly if they end up getting scammed. You pay for a service, you expect to get good service. If you don't then feel free to complain. It helps to vent until you get the chargeback claim processed.

Competent StudentOh brother!

I would tell her that her professional disasters are her own doing.

It was enough that you managed to help her graduate from college.

She can't expect you to do all the work. Look, you did her papers for her and she passed her classes. That was all that was required of you.

Since she obviously did not read the lectures and even pretend to study, there was no way she was going to make it in the professional world. She got too used to spoon feeding and passing by just getting by.

Unfortunately for her, there is no way she could outsource her day to day work functions.

She was found out and dealt with accordingly by management. There is no reason for you to even respond to her because you had nothing to do with her work functions. You were only there for her academic needs. You know where you can tell her to go.

The evidence of her incompetence is not your doing.

Writing Careers / academia-research reward points [16]

Nope. There are no bonuses given at the end of the year to the high rewards result writers. That is just a scam they use to entice the writer to sign up with them and cooperate when unfair revision requests are made. It isn't even true that they use the points system for the promotions because I know of horrible writers at that company, who manage to make it to writer first class. Something that I found insulting considering the fact that as a newly minted (at that time) writer first class on my part, I knew I had the best writing abilities of all the writers in their pool. So to have the worst of their kind ranked at the same level as I was made me puke. That was when I stopped going after the rewards points. I wasn't getting any bonuses from the company, they took a cut of the tips my clients gave me for a job well done, and they promoted writers whose English skills were almost non-existent.

In other words, you can forget about getting any rewards from AR that can help to increase your writer status in the future. The way that they have the system set up now, it is the admin that actually rates you, not the clients. The worst part, is that they give you 5 positive scores then successively give you 7 negative ones. When you only worked on 5 papers for them during the current writing cycle. There was a time when AR was actually a pretty decent company to write for. However, the company could never seem to stay in the hands of a single owner long enough for the writers to actually get any benefits from the job. Each change in ownership meant more writer privileges taken away and more fines and penalties imposed. AR is out for only one thing these days, keeping the payments for themselves. They will pay the writers, but only up to a certain extent. The published rate for the order? That isn't valid. What is valid, is the payment they decide to give you after you have submitted the paper hoping to receive full payment. Don't waste your time. My friends are slowly leaving that company. They are waiting to receive money owed to them before they finalize their departure though.

Let's think of it this way, you submitted your information in a manner that required the writer to make edits to it or add information to a certain extent. The writer mixes and matches information coming from your research and his. This creates a totally new paper that contains 2 strains of... let's call it DNA (for want of a better word). What happens when you combine the DNA of both parents? The result is a pregnancy (work development) and the birth of a unique child (combined DNA creates a new person and personality) who carries the best of both contributors to the life process (your work and the writer's work). Hence, the result of this combination creates a new and original offspring ( the new essay). Considering these factors, it would be right to say that the work produced is a new model answer that should not be used in its original form by the student. It is now the work of the writer who took pains to combine both sets of information in order to develop the paper. Whatever the result, good or bad, it is still his original work that came out at that point. Even if you contributed to the creation of the being. Since he had to do the work of combining everything (fertilization), then the result is the writer's alone.

Wow! Reading that post really made my head hurt. Somehow, I managed to soldier on and make sense of the grammar nightmare that was posted. I have to say though, that there is some truth to his claims.

Specially about the "similar pool of writers". Since most writers starting out in this business prefer to be company affiliated in order to have a better chance at receiving jobs, it is not uncommon for a single writer to have multiple accounts at various companies. There is no worry about double employment because the companies know who their writers are and do not hire them under a different company if they already have an existing account under a sister company. That is why the companies share both the "good" and "bad" writers pool.

That is why the chances of getting a decent and a disastrous writer are equal. However, I disagree with the idea that the bad writers get to stay on at the legitimate companies. When the writer cannot keep up with the company standard, that account is normally deactivated after a period of time due to negative writer ratings.

@Manal15 Actually, independent writers who value their clients and also look out for the integrity of their name in the business will have some sort of agreement with their clients regarding various writing concerns. It is extremely insulting of you to claim that there is no recourse for clients who do not use academic outsourcing companies.

Perhaps you only work for a writing company so you do not have to worry about taking care of your name and reputation in this business. After all, when one is attached to the company, the mud gets slung directly onto the company face, not the writer's. Independent writers have a high degree of self-respect and acknowledge that if they mess up their deals, they may never work in this industry again. Which is why they are very careful about the deals that they make and the quality of their work. To judge a writer based on his email address or the idea that there is no comeback if something goes wrong is just not proper.

Deals are made in an independent setting and a comeback is set into place depending upon the agreement between the writer and client.

Work FixYep. That happened to me all the time when I was still actively working in the academic writing field as a member of the Academia Research writers pool. We all seemed to suffer the same fate.

Needing to revise the essay after the revision deadline had already expired based upon "QAD requirements". Which, I later learned, was their way of saying "We want to resell this paper. If you do not comply then, remember the penalty we did not charge you on this paper when you first submitted it ?

We will charge you that penalty and then some now." It sucks but that is how life at that company went on.

You had to be willing to revise the paper without any extra payment because doing so would be detrimental to the current income that you have in the "bank". I had situations were the company was demanding revisions for papers I had written 6 months, one or two years before.

No amount of explaining to them that I did not consider the "QAD request" a valid revision request unless I was paid for it convinced them to just let the old paper be.

I paid stiff penalties for trying to fight the system but that's another story.

Order CancelAll academic outsourcing companies have a cancellation procedure for their orders.

Depending upon the length of time that it takes you to cancel the order though, you will also be facing penalties that will be deducted from your refund.

You have the right to cancel your order whenever you feel like it. Just remember that you will have to justify the reason for the cancellation and pass through a cancellation interview with the company representative. It may take some time for you to get your refund specially if you passed it through PayPal.

If you passed through Paypal, you will have a better chance of cancelling the order because if the company doesn't agree or gives you a hard time about it, you can always file a Paypal charge back or a dispute. Those are the simpler methods of getting your refund.

While some companies would say that all transactions are final, no refunds, Paypal offers you the opportunity to say "In your face" to those fraudulent companies.

I hope you were able to cancel your order without encountering any problems.

The motivating factor for me is the same as everyone else's. I work faster to make money faster. I am conscious of the fact that I can only earn more and faster if I produce high quality papers. The constantly assured quality of my work for specific clients ensures that they would come back to me every time for their writing needs. So I pushed myself harder and I worked faster, while maintaining the quality of my work, depending upon how much income was at stake for me. I wasn't going to push myself to work faster and harder for a mere pittance. It always had to be worth the time that I would sacrifice to be with my family or skip a few hours of sleep for. If the orders came cheap, then my motivation was lower. The company knew that and did their best to give me high priced orders to work on (which they would eventually chop income off, but that's for another essay) in order to keep me happy and working just for them.

Ukrainian sites charge less per page because that is the only way they can think of to put the other, better qualified writing companies out of business. Quality is the name of the game for most writers but for the companies, it is more about income and repeat clientele. Ukrainian companies can charge less because they pay slave wages to their writers. These writers are located across the globe and have a different exchange rate per dollar each. So whatever the Ukrainians pay them seems like manna from heaven. These writers do sometimes provide high quality work and aim to receive a "bonus" or "tip" from the student, which the site gives them as an additional bone. Due to the low cost of the paper, the client can often afford to throw that bone out to the writer, from which the company still gets a cut. So that's the answer to the query. These sites run their own version of a "sweatshop". Let's call it a "writershop" where they pay a pittance to the hard working writer, who has no idea that they are being used and abused. They charge less per page because the company doesn't have to pay fair wages or benefits to their writers. They just throw some crumbs their way every month.

There is no way of getting around the fining policy of the company. It is something that they have turned into an art form. I don't think an academic outsourcing company can beat Academic Research when it comes to the creativity of the accounting department in terms of figuring out ways and means to fine and penalize the writers. They do it with such precision that the writer has no recourse except to accept the fine and hope that the company takes mercy on the poor writer during the next pay cycle. I endured that for 7 years and I can tell you, it doesn't change even if you become a premium writer. When I left the company, I was a Premium Writer - 1st Class. For all it was worth, the title seemed to mean more severe and highly priced penalties for made up accusations related to paper quality, regardless of client satisfaction. I am telling you, don't dream of advancing in rank as a writer at that company. It won't pay off for you. As a rank and file writer, you will be losing less to penalties than you would as a premium writer.

Any website that uses Paypal as its collection conduit is pretty much safer and more reliable than the others that do not use the same system. Paypal makes creating a charge back easier for the client should he be disgruntled with the service he received from the writing company. I would not necessarily trust the website more because of its PayPal affiliation but I would feel better knowing that I had options in case I wanted to stop the payment on a problematic or unacceptable paper that was written for me. I've been using PayPal since it practically started its service and I can tell you that as a seller, the system also made it easier for me to collect from my clients. It was painless and reliable. So yes, having Paypal as a collecting agent does have its perks and protection for both the client and the seller. However, I would not say that all the websites that use PayPal are reliable, honest, and trustworthy. Those are things considered and proven on a case to case basis.

It is hard to decipher which company is safe, which company is good, and which company will not steal your private information at this point. Mostly because there are so many writing companies out there that it is difficult to assess their reliability and trust factor. You always take a chance when you hire a writing company unless you can somehow confirm that the company is truly US or UK based instead of coming out of the Ukraine or somewhere in the Middle East or Asia. It's like playing Russian Roulette with your term paper. As for whether companies that use Paypal are truly safe. I cannot say that the Paypal connection makes the company reliable and safe. That only means that they are easier to pay and the client has a chargeback option, which is easier to accomplish than a credit card refund, should problems arise with your order. It would be better for you to ask for referrals from personal friends and classmates when it comes to hiring a trustworthy company. At least they can personally warn you about their experiences with the academic outsourcing companies from hell.
Smiley73
Oct 24, 2017

Student InteractionMost academic outsourcing companies do have a message board where the client and writer can interact under the supervision of the client support group of the company.

Messages are screened on both ends and edited to remove certain information such as the mobile number or direct email address of the client. Or any message that may allow the writer to directly contact the client and vice-versa.

Based upon my experience, even after having written over 30 thousand papers prior to my closing that chapter of my writing career, I found that keeping constant touch with the client as the paper is developed and completed had its benefits.

For starters, it eliminated the need to revise the paper after having submitted it to the client. That is not to be confused with the QAD requested revisions.

The clients normally appreciate writers who ask questions, clarify points, and allow them to make inputs as the paper is progressing.

That is a major benefit for the client because it also allows the writer to emulate the writing style or thought process of the client.

This leads to a flawless submission of the paper to the professor, who is none the wiser that the student never struck a key on the keyboard to accomplish the paper.

Agreed. Most students hire writers based on their budget. They look for the cheapest service while expecting high quality work. That is never the case. You get what you pay for. So if you have a limited budget, your choice of writing companies and writers will also be on the "economical" side of the hiring pool. That is why I find it laughable that students protest the final product that they get when they know that they are hiring a questionable academic writing company / writer. They practically hire these scams with the writing clearly on the wall. I won't say they are suckers for punishment, since their budgets do limit their ability to hire quality workers, but then again, they have a knack for repeating the same hiring mistakes time and time again. It seems they find it difficult to learn their lesson when it comes to the hiring of writer services, even when their grades depend on it. So yes, they deserve the kinds of papers they get when they scrimp on their budget and just do a Hail Mary when they hire a writer or writing company.

Plagiarism IssueBack during the early days when I was just starting out.

The first company that I worked for announced that they had just purchased a plagiarism software for their company to help writers avoid plagiarism pitfalls.

They had actual plagiarism report generators that were emailed to writers prior to client submission so that the writer could correct the "plagiarized" content of the essay. The problem with that system was that it cited all properly referenced quotes in the essay as plagiarized, along with the words "I, the, an. am, that, he, she" and a host of other words without which an essay can never be written.

When we complained about it, the company said their software was "flawless" and "faultless". We asked them to try writing an essay without verbs, connecting words, nouns, conjunctions, etc. They eventually stopped using that software because the writers refused to work.

They made it impossible for us to do so because of their software. As time progressed and I started moving across companies, I still found evidence of plagiarism detection software use by the companies. It always did them worse than good but these idiot scam companies place their unwavering faith in the flawed and stupid system.

So yes, I can confirm these programs exist. At least, based upon the plagiarism reports I received until my last day of active writing at my previous outsourcing company contact.

Writer FundsIn truth, it is not legal but they do it on the basis of logical reasons.

Their first reason for doing it has to do with the amount of fees the company is required to pay in terms of bank transfer fees or PayPal service charges.

The second, is that they prefer to wait a month before paying for a paper just in case the client decides to file a quality complaint or begin charge back actions.

They prefer to hedge their best by protecting the income.

Any penalties arising from problem transaction will be taken out of the writer's wages. Not the company share of the profit from a given order. It comes across as an insurance method if you think about it that way.

However, as a business person, or from a business point of view, I can understand why they would do it that way.

It is the norm of the business. It was that way when I entered into the academic outsourcing services and that payment method still stands today, long after I have left the business.

Multiple FreelancingIt wasn't that you were writing for another company which caused her reaction.

It was more that she was probably surprised to learn that you were already working for them under one of their umbrella companies.

These umbrella companies are set up to con students into signing up with them for their papers while covering up the fact that the student may or may not have already had a bad experience with the company previously.

You can most definitely write for multiple companies, that is the point of being a freelance writer. In fact, there was a point in time when I was still actively writing for these companies that I was signed up to work independently for 6 of them at a time.

Back then, multiple companies run by the same people wasn't the norm yet.

So when I applied, I got in and did the job.

It was only later on that the companies started selling their shares to other companies in an effort to either consolidate their business and eliminate competition or, to start the scam operations coming out of various European countries.

Also does anyone know anything about student-place.com - has anyone ever used them?

The legitimacy of your inquiry was very strong up till the moment that you mentioned a specific website to discuss. That certainly made me stop to think, are you a real student doing an investigative piece or, are you a plant, a con, a company rep, trying to promote your company without getting caught? Perhaps the interest that you have in learning about our experiences while working freelance or our experience as a company affiliated writer is meant more as a method of checking out the competition instead of actually wanting valid information that you can use in your piece. I will admit that I was more than willing to leave you a note regarding my experiences working on both sides of the aisle. I changed my mind when the questions I had made me realize that there might be more to your inquiry than just a student investigation piece. Now, I would rather find out if any members of this forum actually contacted you for your "piece" and what resulted from that. Did any of you have the same misgivings that I did? As for you@Essay investigator, whatever happened to the "piece" ? Care to update us? That's the only way we can tell if you tried to run a con by us or not.

General Talk / Teachers know about this site? [19]

Sure teachers know about this website and then some.

English TeacherHow many know about it is something that cannot be accurately quantified. There is no problem about teachers knowing about this website in particular because it does not directly advertise nor promote any specific writing service. Add to that the fact that endorsements from the independent writer participants here is a violation of forum rules.

So I don't see why you should be worried if your teacher knows about this website. There is a vast difference between the academic writing websites that you see and the function of this forum. We help students stay away from scams and give advice as to how to spot the illegitimate writing websites and writers. We don't directly write the papers here.

Although, you could look up reputable writers and websites that advertise here via the EssayBrand and EssayChat. What goes on there though, is between the writer and the person who contacts him. The website is not related to nor liable for anything that comes out of agreements finalized in those areas.

Teachers know about the writing services, don't pretend to be dumb about it. Sometimes, the students get a service so bad that the teacher can automatically tell that he bought the paper. So the job of preventing that from happening rests in your hands as the student requesting for a model paper. We can only guide you through the selection process.

Careful StudentCool down @RLM90.

This website was not designed to suggest which companies or writers you should go with in relation to your writing needs.

It was meant to help students realize when they are being scammed so that they can shy away from the con artists and horrible writing companies out there. While we are not allowed to make recommendations for academic outsourcing companies and independent writers, you can find some pretty reputable writers on this site with a simple click of the mouse.

The most reliable independent writers that participate in this forum also pay to advertise their services in the "Writer / Services" section. Now these people have a track record of reliability in terms of the success rate of their students using the model papers they paid to have developed for them.

You can contact any one of them, not me because I don't do that sort of work anymore, and negotiate a deal for the writing of your paper.

I know this post is extremely late but I do hope that you were able to find a reliable writer to work with you on your paper eventually.

Based on the spelling inaccuracies and sentence structure problems that exist in your post, I find it extremely difficult to believe that you have an MSc.

Then again, who am I to question the state of international education at this point.

You need to pass through the screening system of any company that you hope to work with. Sure it is just a formality and these scammers will let anybody in just so they have someone filling the writer's chair, but you have to pretend to play the game just the same.

As for the TOS and penalties, you can easily read about those in their writer website You won't find any reference to penalties and pro writer terms and conditions because the companies hedge their bets against the writer.

They will find one way or another to implement the penalties so they can get you work on papers practically for free. If you think you have what it takes to try and kickstart your business as an independent writer, then I suggest you do so.

Based on the way you wrote this post though, I would not put too much confidence in you developing an academic writing career.

The multiple websites for the same company using different names is part of the scam game. Yes, the whole idea behind it is to not only corner the market as best as they can, but to also make sure that they can get repeat clients for themselves using different con names. The client sees a different website each time but then, it feeds into the same server and is seen by the same pool of writers. So the burn game is still on, regardless of the site name. The services cannot change because the writer pool remains the same. Their target clients are also never changing. Since they are con artists, they cannot build a brand or an image using the same name. Their bad reputation will continue to haunt them long after they have pretended to improve their services. Since Google no longer promotes these types of sites, we can't say that the multiple website names are based on an image problem that exists within their Google listing. I believe that you have hit the bulls-eye with your observation. I could not have said it better myself.

In all honesty, it is actually possible to make a living doing academic writing. I've been living off the fruits of my academic writing labors for the past 20 plus years. I managed to get some pretty decent savings out of it and, properly invested, can really help to keep the bills paid and deliver a pretty decent lifestyle. It isn't going to make you rich, but you won't be in debt either. Since you are a university lecturer, you will already have an upper hand on everyone else. You are already in the academic field, have university contacts, and students whom you can approach to help you get started. In fact, compared to everyone else here, you are already halfway towards making a pretty decent income sans the regular university lecturer job. Try to work for yourself and promote your services. Most of the writing companies are scams and sites like Odesk and Elance practically want you to do the work for free. Best bid is normally the lowest bid. So that may not be the way to go for you. With your already existing network, it won't be long before you make a go of this career.

Writing Careers / Succeeding as an academic writer? [31]

Successful WriterThis job is more of a calling than a career that one charts for himself. In order to succeed in this job, one needs to be passionate about reading, learning, and writing.

In the span of 3 months, an effective writer will find himself better educated than when he graduated with his degree from college.

This job makes a person a well rounded, intellectually enlightened individual.

Mostly because of the constant exposure to every topic under the sun.

One tends to become an expert across various fields because of the orders being put out there for claiming.

As for the page volume per work, that is not something that you can plan on doing. You slowly ease into it because you gain the confidence and the resources to help you complete the task in a precise manner.

Regardless of the time frame. It will be scary at first, I did not take my first large volume work until 6 months after I began writing academic papers, but once you get over the nerves, you actually begin to look forward to the challenge that large volume orders provide.

Research PromoYes, it does get annoying to read about "posers" who claim to be independent writers and yet also claim, in the same breath, to be connected with an academic writing company at the same time. It becomes hard to read about how independent they are and yet, they accept "recommendations" from their "previous" companies who "value" their writing talents so much.

Apparently, they can't come across clients on their own.

An independent writer worth his salt will not work with a company anymore because the profits are still shared.

There is no such thing as an independent writer who doesn't have networks to keep them afloat. Normally, these networks already cut out the companies because the writers would rather share the profits between themselves.

It's just good business. Word of mouth through networking worked extremely well for me in the past. These days though, I just get my cut from the referrals I send within my network since I no longer work in that field.

That is not to say though that the brothers and sisters of my previous clients don't need my help. When one graduates, the sibling takes over.

Hahaha. So yes, "promotion" through word of mouth is the best method of self promotion in this business as far as I am concerned. Not badmouthing.

General Talk / I'm loving this site. [10]

We live to please. I'm glad that you find the bickering and bantering on this forum entertaining. However, we are not here just to keep you entertained. We are here to help keep students away from scam sites and writers. Give them advice as to how to get the best writing service, without paying an unreasonable amount every time. While I no longer practice academic writing actively, I still enjoy coming here and reviving old threads. You are right about how it becomes entertaining to watch the others get an apoplexy, specially when I respond to ancient threads. I get to know them better as they keep mouthing off without thinking of my purpose for doing these things. They seem to forget that they are here to try and gain new clients, but with the way that they keep mouthing off and turning on me, they aren't doing themselves any favors in the eyes of their potential clients. Who would want to hire a foul mouthed writer right? So yes, I too love this site for similar reasons and then some.

EssayDirectory is still one of the best ways to find a reputable academic outsourcing company as far as I am concerned. It vets the company for reliability and quality. Granted that the companies pay to advertise, the point is, they would not be listed if the powers that be in this forum did not trust the company itself. The recommendations come with some basic company descriptions to set you on the right track. There are many companies to choose from. You just have to consider what your needs are and then choose the company closest to your requirements. If you don't want to deal with the companies because of some previous bad experience, then you can also try searching for a private writer via EssayChat. There haven't been any complaints so far about the writers who are hired based on that format. It really is difficult to find a legit site these days. However, ES makes an effort to at least help point the students in the right direction. Since you are already here and asking for advice, you may say that you are at least started off on the right track.

Here is the thing, if you merely ask for an essay, then the writer is under no obligation to provide any citations in the text. Essays are usually personal analysis papers or opinion papers meant to help the professor understand the degree by which a student has come to understand a lecture or class discussion. So no citations are required in those sorts of papers. Now, if you ask for a research paper and don't receive any in-text citations in the document, you should definitely kick and scream because that model paper is useless to you. It is impossible for you to revise the document, based on your understanding, if you don't have a way to decipher which parts are quotes, paraphrases, or opinions of the writer. From what you shared, it appears that you did not really specify what sort of paper you required from the writer. So don't protest too much. If you did not give the writer the correct instructions, then you cannot expect a properly written paper. If you required citations for your essay, then you should have said so in the first place so that the writer could have provided it in the final model paper.

It is extremely difficult to come across a reliable academic outsourcing company that appreciates quality work and is on the level with payments these days. Aside from the saturated market, there is the problem of the fly by night companies (also known as scams) run by the Ukranians, Nigerians, and some other third world con artists in the writing field. If you don't know which companies are reputable and truly run by Americans or Brits (I mean academic professionals from the UK), you just might fall into the trap set by the scammers. However, the helpful independent writers here such as FreelanceWriter and ProfessorVerb just might be able to hook you up with some pretty solid recommendations for reputable companies to join. I found though that it is much easier to just work for yourself rather than trying to find a company that will turn out to be compatible with your work needs. If you decide to apply with these companies, do so cautiously. While it is possible to spot the scams, these companies are getting better at covering their tracks. So if something seems odd about the wording on the website or the terms of service for writers, then you should run for the nearest exit. Do not continue to deal with them.

If you hire a writing service, there is absolutely no way you can control the kind of writer who will be assigned to complete your research paper or essay. Not even if you specify the qualifications of the writer you want to the high heavens. You will be rolling the dice and hoping to get lucky when you hire an academic writer connected with an academic outsourcing company. However, if you directly hire your writer, such as one of the independent writers here, whom you can directly interact with, the you have a better chance of hiring not only a good, but an excellent native English speaking writer who can also do an impeccable job of completing your research requirements. The key to hiring the best writer for your project lies in the interaction that you have with him / her. Only through directly contacting and communicating with the writer can you assess if he will be any good at his job and if the writer can actually deliver the type of service that you require.

This industry is definitely over saturated as evidenced by the constant spamming that occurs in Twitter and FB for these services. The scam companies have turned what used to be respectable and admirable job into a fly by night nightmare for most students. Setting up your own website would be a good idea only if you can find a way to make yourself stand out and clarify that you are not a scam company. Normally, using FB and Twitter would be enough to help promote your services and website. If you can manage to do some physical promotion for your services at the local student hang outs, you should be able to promote your services and your website in a more "legal" and "reliable" manner. Face to face contact with the writer will certainly put the client at ease and bring a greater sense of legality to your website. Be it professionally designed or not. Face to face promotion trumps social media and website promotion each time. There is just a different sense of confidence that students get when they are face to face with their potential writer. The website turns out to be a bonus as it allows for easier word of mouth promotion when it comes to your satisfied clients referring your services to other students in need.
