One method that works for me when it comes to avoiding issues with my client is having a regularly scheduled video chat with the client during the writing of the paper. Since I can use Google docs to upload the paper, we can immediately work together on fixing the perceived errors in the client's part. This method also helps me better explain to the client as he can mark the areas he has concerns about and I can immediately show him suggested corrections. If acceptable, it becomes part of the final paper. Having a face to face chat helps us better develop our working relationship as well because it allows us to see each other's facial expressions, which helps us understand each other better than simply emailing everyday.

The beauty of the video conference with the assistance of Google Docs is that the client gains a better perspective of how the paper was written, why it was written that way, and also allows the client to have a direct hand in the finalizing of the document. So the paper isn't written just by the writer. Rather, it becomes a collaborative effort that benefits the client when he has to face up to the scrutiny of the professors during class or his thesis defense.

@writer4life I guess we will have to agree to disagree then. We have differing experiences when it comes to copywriting. Maybe because when I do copywork, I insist on meeting with the client on a thrice a week basis in order to get his approval or disapproval of the current draft. By putting myself out there, ready to work on revisions in an instant, willing to meet the clients needs at every turn before the final paper is done, it appears that I please the client and his team on a higher level.

You may have guessed it by now, when I do copywork, I ask for a desk at the office of the client for the duration of the writing process. That way there is a chance for instance communication, instant suggestions, revisions, and discussions for the improvement of the copy. I refuse to work from home in those instances because that takes precious work time away from the project should revisions be required. That is why I find it is a lot easier to do than writing an academic paper where the revisions often come after I have completed the paper.

The thing is, the professors are getting sick and tired of reading in-text citations without proper explanations in the paper from the student. It is almost like the in-text citations have become the go-to word fillers for the students. Hence the more recent requirement of less citations, more paraphrasing instead. Paraphrased sections still need to be cited anyway.

The goal of the professor is to prove to himself that the student actually understood what the citation is all about and how it applies to his research. Anybody can pick a section of previously published text that is relevant to his research and then use it to help fill the page. The student may or may not care about understanding the text as long as it "sounds like" it is relevant to the paper being written. That is why the citation threshold has been lowered from year to year. It is about forcing the students to learn more while outside of the classroom setting.

@writer4life I still have my blog active after all of these years. I try to post some writing tips and advice for the students at least twice a week. When I was first starting out as an independent writer, I often had students ask me for sample work. I found it really difficult to send them samples of my work as I have a copyright agreement with the students who ask me to complete papers for them. So showing them my sample work was a bit tricky. That's when I decided to start my blog.

I used the blog mainly to advertise my business. I never did the social media route since I always got referred to my student clients anyway. The blog was meant to refer them to my writing style and also, offer them some lessons regarding research writing. I considered it a two way benefit for the student. They got to decide if my writing style was something they could appreciate and, they learned the basics of essay, opinion, and research writing at the same time.

My experience is that working yourself as a freelance writer with private clients is far better than having to work for an essay writing company. You called the essay writing company and asked to have your order cancelled. They have the right to refuse to cancel the order specially if they have already received the payment for it. However, the company cannot prevent you from cancelling the payment through your card company. Provided you did not do an instant payment / the payment has not cleared yet, then you can still cancel the transaction and in effect, cancel the order with the company as well. They will not proceed to have their writer work on an order that they cannot collect on. The most that will happen is that the writer will receive a notification that the order has been cancelled. Based on the experience of certain people who are known to me, it appears that they do not knowingly write for fraudulent companies. Just like the students, they too are gypped into believing that they are working for a legitimate US or UK based company. Due to their desire to earn what they believe to be an honest income, they do not really bother to investigate the background of the company they are potentially going to be working for. They just want to earn an income. Does that make them a fraud? Maybe an accessory, but not a fraudster.

Now, what I think some of these people are engaged in is deceit as they seek to fool people into believing that they are something which they are not. That is what I often warn them about. Being truthful in this business is the only protection a writer has against unfair chargeback claims and other accusations. So when they begin to hide who they truly are, then they are practicing deceit while their company engages in fraud. Yes, I try to separate the two because I believe that the latter has engaged in a far worse crime than the former.

While I will admit that Bitcoin is an impressive emerging currency, I (and freelance writers I know) would not be so quick to accept it as a mode of payment until banking regulations or government oversight has been established for the transactions.

There are just too many unknowns as far as I am concerned when it comes to the bitcoin payment scenario.

@antoniagartosta do not generalize your reference to students. There are three types of students in college. The full - time students, the part-time students, and the ESL students. Each student has different writing requirements that they can either do by themselves or with the help of writing services.

The full-time students will most likely have the time to work on their papers themselves since they do not have to worry about earning money to support their studies. They are totally focused on their studies and will most likely have the time management and assignment scheduling abilities that being a dedicated college student requires. The only time that a college student might require writing help is at the end of the semester when the writing assignments may fall on the same due dates with each assignment having more than 10 pages to write per assignment. Based on my observation though, the full-time students rarely need the help of writing services unless they end up in dire situations that are beyond their control.

The part-time students will most likely hire a writing service to assist with the writing of their papers. They have a valid reason for doing so. Due to their work schedules, they only have time to read their class lectures and assigned reading tasks. They do not have time to do the after school research that their papers entail since they need to earn money to pay for their educational fees and other needs. The solution to the written homework problem is simple, hire a writing service to complete the tasks and grade requirements.

As for the ESL students, well, I don't think that requires too much of an explanation. The term speaks for itself. They can barely speak English which means they can barely or cannot write in English. Hence the pressing need for them to hire a writing service.

@antoniagartosta for native English speakers, finding clients through advertising or other means will not be a problem. The skills with which to properly develop any research paper or essay is ingrained into us from grammar school. For the ESL writers, they should not try to advertise their writing services because their writing skills will never be enough. Nor will their grasp of the English language. Only writers with enough experience under their belts should dare to openly advertise their services.

I think you are an ESL writer who is most likely attached to a writing company. You will never understand what it takes to survive in the writing business because you do not deal with the kind of clients that native English writers deal with. Your company is most likely always in trouble because of you, the perfect example of the kind of writers that they employ. Don't bother with advertising here. You will not get any clients.

You may want to shop around a bit before you jump into business with this particular company.

The VAT is also one reason why the students seek to get their writing work done outside of the UK. The amount of VAT charged on the written product is just unreasonable when you consider that most students are on a fixed income, just like everyone else. That is why there is a growing demand for writers who can write in the UK English style as well. It will be cheaper for them to pay for the service that they acquire outside of their area of the world.

However, it is this cost cutting consciousness that also makes the students fall prey to unscrupulous writing companies and questionable writers (not located here at ES). I find this website to be highly suspicious in nature. While I can understand when two companies might share the same server, the problem that I have with their set up is that they both offer the same services and of them has the word China in it. This leads me to wonder as to the veracity of their claims that their writers are truly skilled in the topics and fields that their company offers academic assistance for.

For all we know, this is a Chinese writing company, being run out of China, through overseas servers. That makes is scam in my opinion and should not be trusted. I do not believe that you should trust this company just because it claims to have 2 servers in the United States. Simply pinging the server off various locations can confuse a system already.

It would be better not to associate yourself either as a client or a student with this company as there are too many unknown variables regarding its actual location and writer expertise. Save your money and try to find a legitimate independent writer instead. I am starting to think that the main purpose of these companies is to hoodwink the clientele. Well, here is something that I just found out. Their top visitors to their site are people from Kenya and Pakistan. Their location is in the USA but the address looks unreliable. It appears that their most frequent visitors are the writers employed by their 3rd rate academic writing company. Their claim to fame is that they do not have a registration fee for the writers to sign up. What kind of company would have a writer pay for his account at the company when everyone knows that there is a profit sharing scheme being run by the company owner? That doesn't make sense. Any writing company that asks a writer to pay a fee has to be a scam. The problem is, so is brilliantwritings.com.

Their site blurbs are too good to be true. They seem to be so fair to the writers which we all know is a bunch of stinking cow doo. I am amazed that they manage to stay in business and that their rankings are impressive overall. I guess their student associates are very good at their jobs. They can convince the students to pay for work and the writers, to work for no pay.

History tells us that America, when it was still a British colony, spoke British English. Therefore, the country's language is British based. However, after the war between the two countries, America decided to declare its independence by changing their mother tongue to American English. Why?

It was all about erasing the traces of being a former colony. While the ancestors of modern day Americans could not change the language as they were already used to speaking British English, they also knew that they could change several language references in English owing the to migrants to the country who, having come from various British colonies, had their own languages aside from English to speak of. From there, it was simply a matter of adapting certain words to form a new language, American English, as the language that the country would be speaking from then on. That is why the English language is so similar yet so different between the two countries.

Any academic writer worth his salt should be able to change his writing style as required.

That is the whole point of getting instructions from the student for the paper. I for one always required my client to provide me with a copy of his or her writing sample prior to starting my work. That is because I needed to recognize the nuances of the client's writing in terms of grammar presentation and vocabulary usage.

These universities don't just take anybody into their college departments.

I stopped using it as reference points or information sources later on as I came to realize that it is no better than Wikipedia. It is an open site that has articles written by just about anybody who wants to write about any topic.

Some individuals from Africa (and other continents) are seen mostly as problematic "refugees" trying to get out of their country. According to some sources, they are best known as drug traffickers, pirates, and other negative elements in society.

However, I disagree that they should not be allowed to access scholarship grants, provided that the Nigerian seeking the scholarship can prove to be a potential asset to the country that he will be studying in for a while. Everyone deserves the chance to better themselves financially. The best way to do that is to better educate oneself.

Hold on, the OP did not make it clear if it is the client who is requesting for the improvements in the paper or if the company is the one requesting for the changes.

Those are two different scenarios that have two different outcomes. If the student is the one requesting for the changes, and there has yet to be evidence presented to support this hypothesis, then the writer should go ahead and deliver the requested changes. After all, the client is always right.

However, if it is the company that is requesting the changes then it is more than likely that the company is merely looking for a reason or reasons to hit the writer with unreasonable fines.

I am not sure if this company can be trusted when it comes to the way it treats their writers due to highly secretive nature of the company. It is very difficult to gain any verifiable information about the company which tells me that they are hiding something from both the students and their employees / writers.

If any writer decided to apply for a job there or if any student hires their services, I advise that you do so at your own risk.

It would be nice to know how things turned out for the OP's friend. Specifically if he finally collected his back pay and if he was able to turn his life around because of it. I hope that he was able to get off the streets in the meantime through the help of his concerned friends. Though I know nothing about this company, the story that was narrated above is highly similar to the experience of some of my writer friends who work for European writing companies. They always got their salary on a delayed basis. However, their delay was normally from a month to a full quarter, never several months.

The fact that this company is still in business 7 years after this post tells me that they manage to scam more and more new writers every year. These are the poor writers who hope to get a start in the business and earn an income only to be treated like a slave with delayed wages. If they pay at all. I guess that is how they manage to keep their company afloat, by not paying their writers salary on time or at all.

Aside from the name of the companies being different, there is very little that differentiates these two companies.

Writecheck and Turnitin both use a database of existing essays, to which the current student's essay is added, for future reference.

So if a student makes any revisions to an essay that he previously submitted for checking, it will somehow manage to turn up as flagged for plagiarism in the system of both checkers.

There is no assurance that a student's essay will not turn up as plagiarized once a first submission is made to either website since both sites store the information in their system.

These sites are basically a different sort of mining tool for the company owners so there isn't much that it can actually do in terms of proper plagiarism checking.

@writer4life due to the line of work that I am in, I have several layers of security installed into all my gadgets / systems. Malware detection software being one of them. That is how I discovered that these websites have a knack for trying to plant all sorts of outgoing codes into a system. They more or less use malware, pup, malvertising, and the like these days. All of which are readily blocked by an up to date malware detection tool. I have become so reliant on my security systems that I sometimes forget to be careful about clicking on links. Well, not the links that come by email. I never click on those even if it comes from my employer at the time. I always use the cut and paste system to be sure the site is safe.

I once worked for a company that required me to access exterior websites through active links in their system. The problem is that I was using my own system to link to the sites and my malware tool kept kicking in to block the sites. These were actually academic writing websites whose names I will not mention due to DND rules.

Every time, I would get a full screen warning about how dangerous the site is, what data it tries to collect, and that my access was blocked because of it. I can't tell you how relieved I was that the program caught the problems that I would most likely never have noticed. Needless to say, I eventually resigned from that company. I wasn't getting much work done because my security system kept blocking the sites I was supposed to be working on. Hahaha !

It appears to me that they are running quite a scam here with all of their "umbrella" companies. As such, I do not believe that you should trust them with your money. They are not running a proper academic writing service and most likely do not have any actual writers on staff. That means all you will get from them are cut and paste works from papers that can be readily found online. It would be best if you simply engage the services of a private writer in order to avoid possible complications with your paper and submission time. There is absolutely no way that you can trust anything that their company rep will be saying. It is definitely a scam.

Using Google Docs only works if you are working on a draft of a paper with a group of people. I have never relied on it for final formatting of a document because of the well known issues behind it. This is such a proprietorial piece of software that it doesn't play nicely with MS Office. It just doesn't translate well. You would be better off using some other form of free encoding software like Libre, Kingsoft, and whatever apps come with a Mac. Those have no problems with formatting because they follow the commonly used MS Office versions. While those programs do have a learning curve, it beats having to try to figure out how to use Google Docs.

I have known people to use Google docs only as a last resort. Usually when taking an online class with a group of people and they happen to be working on a group project. Or, independent writers and programmers working on a lucrative programming deal but residing in different parts of the world. Even then, they finalize offline using a more reliable software. However, if you really want to complete your document using Google Docs then this is how you do it:

1. Open the document in Google Docs
2. Click on Insert . Header / Footer
3. Choose one of the two
4. Insert the information you need

The above instruction works for the general header or footer. If you need to change it for the first and second pages, then click on Different first page Header / Footer. Note than you can only change the first page information. The rest of the pages will have uniform information for the header / footer.
